ROM part deuce or 2.0 or $$$

DS is also running solo in his room until his roommate comes off iso on Wednesday. DS did jokingly mention that "maybe this is better than the regular school year"- in regards to more sleep, less running around, less chopping, less training staff shenanigans, etc. That being said, he is also getting restless, he does do some HIIT each day and/or goes for a run. I imagine that having his roommate back will be refreshing, until the novelty of being together all the time wears off, at which point ideally ROM will be nearly over, and if not then they'll figure it out.

Question: MIDN's are in ROM, not allowed to have food delivered to Gate 1, and package delivery is on hold. However the HPCON is still at B which means visitors are still allowed on the Yard. If true, why are visitors allowed into the "bubble" but not packages? What prevents someone from carrying in a package for a MIDN?

I am holding hope that ROM only lasts a week. I feel terrible for the classes of '22, '23 and '24 who experienced much longer ROM's. DS was pretty down yesterday as he goes through his first ROM. One roommate has not returned to Yard yet due to COVID. The other roommate is a Varsity athlete so he still has to attend practices effectively giving DS to tend to himself in his room. Going from being in house with people around and lots of activities to essentially being boxed in room for a few days has been a tough adjustment.

I have full faith that today will bring some new challenges with in room learning and more unknowns become knowns.
yes I am confused on this too - I just talked to yum yum club and she can deliver on the yard - my plebe said the food in styrofoam is awful - she starts practice today for her sport - I am going to send some fruit through yum yum club to her. hopefully the ROM is short lived and they can get back to normal!

Yes, it sucks, but they will be okay. Our DS along with 4000 of his buddies ate out of those clamshell styrofoam containers three times a day for half a year. Hopefully, this one is over and they are back in class on the 18th.

Being able to take a nap as a plebe is huge, take advantage of it. Prep for classes that begin tomorrow. Mine is running solo as well so he is getting some much-needed alone time, but he misses his roomies.

It's out of their hands, most things are in this situation. My MIDN said he has seen cars come on the yard in the dark, turn off their lights and a shadowy figure of a MIDN runs out and grabs something out of the trunk and then disappears back into Bancroft. Within the current rules? No, but at least they are trying to do it without any contact.

Hmmmm?

I just finished a down-n-back to San Diego to see DD off on her first deployment billet..... it only took her 7 yrs to get to sea. YAY!!

I know she has been Vaccinated. I think she did a booster (?) although my MDDW, DD's-DM and DD's JD-DF aka Jus-D, (sorry, got carried away), ......were iffy-meh on boosters.

We were talking with her and another SWO (also deploying) about Omicron at dinner the night before CVN left port. Both former Mid turned JOs said the USN had been silent boosters and testing. On the night before sailing neither JO knew of plans to test personal before boarding ship.

After the air-wing comes aboard there will be 5000+ people on the CVN. DD shares a room with 2-3 JO's that is about 40% the size of a 3mid room at the USNA. Enlisted rest-n-sleep in more confined spaces. It's a big ship, but it's still a confined space.

Omicron Covid19 seems to be following the standard path for a virus becoming way more communicable and far less damaging to its host. I recently heard an epidemiologist say that masking and social distancing to combat Omicron is "like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain link fence". I have to believe that omicron is ripping through the ships complement and that the USN knew/knows it will. This makes sense to me; mild symptoms for 99+% of those exposed and come down with it, and therapeutics for the .01-% who have a rougher time. The infection runs its milder course and then everyone aboard is better prepared to fight off whatever the next version is ( just like the Flu).

What's interesting is the USNA going into "ROM (?)" in light of what looks like a "lets push through omicron" policy on the part of the broader Navy. I'd guess it may have to do with a different legal relationship between Mids and Enlisted/Commissioned Sailors; as well as the visibility of the USNA vs a ship at sea. It could also just be a function of different balances between ,abundance of caution based on unknown long term impacts of any COVID infection vs keeping the Navy mission ready.

I'm a huge fan of the school your sons-n-daughters attend. I can't "do the math" on this because I don't have all the facts; I just find the apparent dichotomy between Navy and USNA approaches interesting.

Here's to Omicron acting as our way out of this politicized illness. DW seems to think omicron will put Covid in the rear view mirror soon. She booked a cruise for late Feb. (85% off = fish on!). I hate cruises!!!!

USNA is a ‘ship’ surrounded up to its wrought iron gates by MD. Civilian land all around. That’s part of the difference. Imo.

The big difference is that the Fleet is real ...there is a mission to do, including protecting the US. While USNA does have an important mission, there is nothing going on that justifies taking unnecessary risk. (Of course, I'm not going to address the perceived risks..that's a whole 'nother issue).

DS hasn’t called today. What is ‘orange’ entail? Sounds like a move in the right direction.
And I agree with @justdoit19 being in the middle of a state Capitol and within a short drive of the Pentagon puts USNA in the eye of both the public and the DOD.

If I understand correctly not full lockdown but still virtual. They were at yellow I believe before break.

That has always been an issue with USNA -- far more visibility, and proximity to the 5 sided puzzle palace where all the good decisions are made, than other Service Academies. Routine matters at USNA often draw more scrutiny than other Service Academies get.

I asked my mid what is the best difference between orange and red. They can get liberty off the yard but cannot eat/drink indoors and they can get food delivered. It's always about food.
