Can cadets enrolled in the SMP program apply to the academy as enlisted soldiers and therefore only have to get a commander’s nom vs that or a MOC?

The more noms you get the better. Apply for all you are eligible for.

I believe I read somewhere that if you apply from the Reserves, which you probably are since you’re doing SMP (or ANG), you are part of a pool of other Reserve candidates who USMA can pick from. My recruiter says they never fill all the slots, but take that with a grain of salt. So, there’s that and the commanders endorsement but also apply to your MOC, as mom3boys said.
