Running at SLS

The CFA mile is a very flat stretch of paved road right next the Hudson. The only downside is that it is also next to a water treatment plant and the smell got to a lot of the candidates when we were running it. People were puking all over the place.

Oh yes it can be that bad. I ran a 5k two or three years ago in the June heat of Florida. At about the 1.5 mile mark, we ran past a Krispy Kreme. The scent was definitely vomit inducing.

Moral of the story, run past vomit-inducing places in preparation for SLS.... Haha it sounds pretty stupid out loud, but I understand it can be unpleasant in the moment

wow...ive never thrown up during a run. this will certainly be a great experience :)

Well - this thread has sure taken an interesting turn!

I was at SLS last year, first session, and I don't remember any smell during the mile.

My advice, don't worry about any distance longer than your mile (distance apparently comes during beast). Some people did throw up during my mile because, their explanation, they exhausted themselves on every other event and were pretty tired for the mile. Basically, I would train for the mile, but make sure you do it as part of the entire CFA.

Sprints wouldn't hurt you either, I remember doing some bear crawls and obstacles on military day that could be tough for one not used to cardio

Does anyone have any tips on the "Insanity Workout"?

Claims to give you a very good cardio. Just started yesterday... Pretty messy stuff (sweat-wise).

I'm not looking forward to the CFA at SLS. I'm used to running in 40 degree weather in the mornings and whenever the temperature passes 65 it feels really hot for me. How can I train to get used to the heat? Run in full winter gear?

If your worried about it, I think that the winter gear idea might work, don't overheat though...

you could try a treadmill in a heated room, gyms are usually pretty warm.

In the end if you think it's hotter than what you trained for, just know to take a little off your pace at the beginning. If the heat doesn't bother you than you can always increase your pace later in the run, but what you don't want is to shut down because the heat got to you.

Relax, if you're training for it, than your time should work itself out
