I am a current MS3 CDT ranking preference for CAIT this summer. My intention is to commission as an Infantry Officer. In my preferences, I am unsure whether or not to rank Airborne or Sapper first. I am aware that many infantry officers get sent to airborne school and don't have the opportunity to attend Sapper. However, I am not sure if attending Sapper school give me a higher chance of branching Engineer (which is what I don't want)

In reality there is a possibility that I don't get any of these slots but in the event that I get both (unlikely), what school should I attend?

If you get Infantry they will most likely send you to Airborne School then Ranger school after Basic Officer Course.

Go get your sapper tab.

Want a guaranteed infantry slot?

"Hi, I'm CDT X. After CST I attended Sapper school and was a first time go, hence the tab on my left shoulder. I want to be an infantry officer."

If you branch infantry, you will be sent to Airborne, then ranger school after IBOLC.

I know several officers with Sapper and ranger tabs, both engineer and infantry officers.

I agree with all of the above. Airborne school is easier to get AD than Sapper school.

There are only a couple of Sapper slots per BDE so your chance of getting one is extremely small. Having a Sapper tab won't make it more likely for you to get EN against your will over IN. If you don't rank EN high in your preference, you are not likely to get it, even if they rate you as most preferred. Your BN shouldn't give you both slots in order to spread the wealth. If you have the choice to choose, pick Sapper as that is the harder school to get overall.
