If you take the ACT, will the portal list the ACT scores instead or the SAT conversion score? Anyone know?

Oddly enough, DS portal showed the SAT conversion score a couple of days ago...today it shows the ACT scores but still lists them as SAT scores.

Yes, that is what is on DS's portal now too. Interesting!

What I thought was really weird is that the SAT posted doesn’t match the reported scores. Apparently, they deducted points because of the old SAT version.

Same happened for my application, my SAT scores on the application were lower than my actual scores. I emailed my admissions officer and she explained that the Academy uses the test scores instead of individual section scores (?) I checked my portal again today and the scores now read 36 verbal and 34 math, which I thought was unusal. Could anyone provide some insight as to why they keep changing???

    phyrebird,

Log into MySat check your full SAT report from the College Board. I suspect these are your "skills insight" scores. The College Board has national bands for skills insights. A 36 for verbal is the top band and a 34 for math is the second highest national band. I attached a file from the College Board.

    Good luck.

Today, the portal lists the scores at ACT numbers, but it still says SAT Verbal/Math. Interesting!

Does anyone understand how these skills insight SAT numbers work?! I've been reading stuff online for an hour and I can't find what I'm looking for yet. DS took the ACT, not SAT but on his portal it has two numbers for SAT but they are 2-digit numbers. FatherofFour mentioned they are probably Skills Insight numbers. DS improved his ACT math score by 2 points (in early December) but his portal has not been updated. I'm assuming the Skills Insight SAT for math would increase with a 2-digit ACT increase but nothing is shown. I had the score report sent to the Admissions when he registered for ACT so it should have gotten there long ago. Also, I emailed it myself, and additionally my son called and has emailed but hasn't gotten a response.

I'm wondering if the 2-point increase in math does NOT affect the Skills Insight? I would think it would though. I don't know. Does anyone have any insight or advice? DS doesn't want to come across as nagging and is hesitant to call again if that would be the case. Yet, he and I are both confused.

I would not hesitate to have your DS reach out to admissions. They have been extremely patient and helpful with all 3 of my kids who applied. You are not being a pest if you have legitimate questions to which you cannot find answers. If you are calling with questions that can be easily answered by a search of the USMMA website, that would qualify as being a pest. But the question you have is complicated. When a couple points extra in your scores can make the difference between admission and rejection, I would definitely contact them, make sure the scores are correct, and put your minds at ease. Good luck.

Does someone know of anywhere where I can find the conversion chart for ACT math scores into the SAT Skills Insight scores? I have looked for hours now and still can't find it.

I haven't found a conversion chart, but I think I know how you can convert. So the current bands for Math/Reading SAT Skills Insight are:
    6-14
    15-19
    20-24
    25-29
    30-34
    35-40
It looks like they used to be:
    200-290
    300-390
    400-490
    500-590
    600-690
    700-800
It won't be a perfect conversion but convert your DS ACT to SAT and see what old band it falls into.

This is just an educated guess. I would have DS call Admissions to confirm just as kpmom2013 suggested earlier.
