I received a nomination from my Senator and Congressman. The Senator's office told me that he does not specifically pick the primary nominee (vacancy winner) but rather all his nominees are in no real order. I just emailed my reps office to see if I received the primary nomination but he has not gotten back to me yet.

Can someone explain to me what will happen if I am/am not the vacancy winner.

Also, I was wondering if anyone in South Carolina has gotten their appointment to USMA or any other service academy. If not, when do they send them out?

If you are the vacancy winner and you are 3Q then you will receive an appointment. If there is a vacancy winner, but not you, you will go to the NWL. On a competitive list, like your Senator's you will compete against the people on that list for the appointment. Thus, if both lists are competitive you will have two separate chances to win an appointment before moving to the NWL should you not be selected. Once on the NWL you are competing against applicants across the nation for the remaining slots.

Hope this helps. You are fortunate to have multiple appointments. Good Luck!

If you are not the vacancy winner and do not have an LOA, you will be put on the National Waiting List (NWL) when and if you are deemed FULLY qualified (3Qd, Physical, PT test, Academic) by WP. There are usually about 1700 (plus or minus two hundred) people on this list. They are rank-ordered first to last in order of merit as determined by WP. Normally about 400 people are given offers from this list. Clearly you must be ranked in about the first quarter of this list to be admitted. Check with your Regional Admissions officer. He will not tell you exactly where you are on the list but he will probably give you some indication.
Your job then is to do something (Boys State, better SATs etc) to improve your ranking on the list.

Thanks for the answers, they really helped.

But you mentioned that USMA requires a candidate to be 3Qd. I've heard that some people receive this letter saying that they are qualified medically, academically, and physically, but I have not gotten a letter about this. Looking at my candidate portal, it says that I am medically qualified by DoDMERB and shows that I passed the CFA but I don't see anything about being academically qualified. Should I be worried that I haven't received such a letter or is it some kind of formality?

P.S
My academic qualifications aren't bad with decent SAT/ACT and a high GPA.

Matt - My daughter is also from SC, district 4. She received a nomination from our Senator as well. She has not received anything from WP either. We are hoping after the holidays and when everyone is back to work she will hopefully hear something. We were told that our district is very competitive as too. She received an LOA to USNA in September and an appointment in October. She has always wanted to attend USMA and is hoping some good news will come her way. Good luck to you!!!
