Scholarships if Appointed

How does it work if you receive multiple scholarships and then get an appointment? Does the scholarship money go in the plebe’s Academy account?

Look at each scholarship and see what they can be used for. Some might work for uniforms or incidentals.

My son did not apply for scholarships that he would have been a strong candidate for ... let his classmates get them. He reasoned his whole education and room and board was paid for.
 
DS1 received a handful of very small private scholarships before hearing about his appointment. Scholarship checks were sent to the academy and then credited to his account. However, funds were not available for over a year.
 
DD2 won a high-dollar essay scholarship last spring that she was planning on using if she didn't get an appointment or ROTC. She is now considering donating the scholarship money back to the nonprofit.
 
My understanding (and someone with more knowledge can jump in) is that any "academic scholarship" that is government related, ie: State, Federal, or Local Government will not be transferred. Any private scholarships ie: Cable Co, Utility, Vet org, bank, etc, may be able to be deposited into the cadet account. I know it works at USMA for "private" scholarships, but am not sure about which ones.
 
a wise person sent me this link yesterday when I was inquiring on this subject. I was specifically asking about FAFSA but private local scholarships as well. This link answers what you are asking.

The initial package issued to mids includes clothing, necessary items and a computer set up. Private scholarship money made payable to the mid's account would help offset the money lent to the mid to purchase these items. Of course ALL scholarships are different and the funds would have to meet the required specifics of the scholarship. IOW, if you receive a scholarship specific to room and board, that won't work at academy as they provide that. But if you received a general use type scholarship than it could be used. For other readers, I’m pretty sure USAFA and USMA have similar guides, variations in titles.
