Security Clearance and Army Cadet Command

Hi all,

I just had a thought when my cadre talked about this the other day. Apparently, some cadets werent truthful when it came to disclosing civil involvements or past drug uses, and an important higher-up like a bridgadier general or something had to personally come down or get on the phone to talk to the cadet in question, and they were in BIG trouble.

I'm just worried that this will happen to me when I go to get my security clearance. I've been truthful and disclosed any involvements, and I've gotten waivers for them all, so should I be worried? Are the people who do security clearances different from the Army ROTC cadet command people? If so, they should have access to my cadet profile and see that I've gotten the waivers right?

The easiest way to get yourself in trouble in the military or civilian would is to lie or be untruthful on an application or any other document. If you were truthful and fully disclosed your past drug use or other civil infractions you have nothing to worry about. But this is the same answers you got in your previous posts.
 
yeah, I kind of realized that, so to be more specific:

As long as I listed all of the past drug uses/civil involvements and got them all waived by AROTC HQ, I should be fine right? My other question is: will the people doing the security clearance personally ask me about the civil involvement's specific details, or will they just see that it happened and ask me how I've moved on from it? This is the only one that worries me because my drug use was as a juvenile, so my record was expunged - no police records or anything like that. I'm worried that they'll ask me something that I honestly can't recall because it was many years ago, and they'll think I'm being dishonest.
 
Yes you should be fine.
But, you are looking for someone to give you a definitive answer and someone to tell you that everything is going to be fine. We cannot be your priest and tell you do say 5 hail marys and you will be absolved of all your sins. I am sure you know, but your indiscretions will haunt you for the rest of your life. It will be a constant worry, but just move on.
On your application they ask about any (and I mean any) arrests, civil fines and adverse adjudications (or something like that). They want you to disclose everything. If as a juvenile you had a conviction expunged, they still want it disclosed. As long as you disclose everything, you should be fine. When your security clearance is completed, they will not care that you are remorseful and you have moved on. They are going to investigate you past and they are good at their job (as they should be). They will find that expunged conviction, and if it was not disclosed you will have a problem.

If you disclosed everything you should be good. But, only should. I am sure you have seen in the news that the military is (or was) trying to recover bonus money that was given out inappropriately. It was at no fault of the recipient, but rather the recruiters. The recipients didn't do anything wrong, but yet the military was trying to recover the bonus. In your case, the best you you can do is disclose, that is all you can do.

Yes, JPAS. Ask your cadre about it.

Also, yes, the people that handle clearance investigations are investigators from the Office of Personnel Management.

Be truthful and you’ll be fine. They want to make sure you don’t have anything in your past that a potential adversary could use against you. I’ve sat down with them multiple time both for my own clearance and when listed on others, it’s not something you should really stress about.
