Selected for Jury Duty

I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. I WANT to be on a jury. They just don't pick me.

I actually want to do a trial. I get paid by my school district and the county pays a few dollars per day.
Those in unions do have it easier when it comes to jury duty
I'm in Virginia, a right to work state. We have an association they call it. I haven't joined in 11 years. For almost 100 dollars a month the greatest benefit is lawyer representation if one of the LDs accuse us of something. I'll take my chances.
I wasnt advocating for Unions one way or another. Just saying, union members get paid for jury duty
Nor I. We just don't have one in Va.

I have been selected for jury duty and was wondering wether or not I should notify afrotc about it. I have received a scholarship however will not start my freshman year until the fall. As far as I can tell there should be no schedule conflicts.
It really depends on what type of jury duty you have been called for as well as what type of trial. you really can't get tied down on long term federal jury trial which can last months sometimes, or a special grand jury which can sit up to a year or more. So just be clear when and if you are called that you have obligations that preclude your serving past a certain date. Congrats on the nrotc selection and enjoy the summer!

Never made it out of the jury "waiting room" before, until last month when we all got taken upstairs for superior court (felony cases)

And I was the first prospective juror called to the box!

But was dismissed towards the end of the day by the defense...probably because the alleged crime happened right outside my neighborhood.

I was called in three years ago but was never seated. I was hoping for a high profile case. I filled out a questionnaire a few days ago for the US district court of Eastern Virginia. My fingers are crossed.

This has been my retirement plan for some time. Catch a big case on jury duty in NOVA, write a book, retire. I was actually in window during the year of the DC Sniper but never got called.

I've been teaching for 25 years, and while I've never been called for jury duty, I know that I'm not allowed to be paid both my teaching salary and jury duty fee. I believe that in the state of Ohio it is considered "double dipping" and we have to turn the jury duty fee over to the district.

That being said, my DS (rising senior NROTC at RPI) was summoned for jury duty in April. We live about 9 hours away from RPI, so I contacted the Clerk of Courts, and they waived his duty.
