I took my ACT for the first time (first time taking any standardized test) sept. 12 and got my scores back. I didn't do as well as I would have hoped and compared ok - not too strong - to the class of 24 (on USMA website). But, I automatically had my scores send since I thought anything would be better than nothing at this point. Was that the right move? I just took an SAT this past weekend and have 2 more SATs and 1 more ACT. So lots of room to improve but I don't want these scores the first time around to hurt me (I know USMA super scores too).

The only thing that matters is the superscore. If they were to look at the scores, and see improvement, then that's to your benefit

Yes, you were right in sending your scores. As kinnem noted, USMA superscores, so a low score on one test or section won't hurt you. Just as important, admissions will choose which test (SAT/ACT) best supports your candidacy - i.e. gives you the most WCS points.

Since you do not know precisely how USMA weighs the total score and the subscores from each section, it is best to send all scores and let admissions figure it out. The only exception might be if you scored lower on every section of an SAT/ACT test and had already submitted the higher scores from a previous test.

Admissions will ignore low scores from sections of the test being used, as long as there is a higher score that is being used in the superscore. They will also ignore all scores from the test not being used. They do not play "gotcha" with candidates. The WCS score is the only score that matters and only the superscore from the test being used factors into the calculation.
