Howdy y’all,
Just some background on me, I am still waiting to hear back from USNA and USAFA, and I have offers for Navy and Air Force ROTC.

More importantly, I just heard today from Texas A&M NROTC that the Mids attending Senior Military College’s will not have to complete NSI. They said they were not given a reason, but just wanted to let us know. Just thought people may want to know.

Makes sense with the immersion that is to be found at SMC the NSI program would be a bit redundant and expensive

DS received an email from Texas A&M NROTC telling his of this also today. And I agree it does makes sense for kiddos at the SMCs. Why would they spend the money on the training when they are about to be cadets?

the government saving money - shocking

Got the same email for A&M. Does anyone know when we will get to swear in and earn our EGA’s like we were supposed to at NSI? Also my understanding was that NSI this year was going to include weapons qual and some firefighting stuff. I imagine we will probably skip firefighting but do SMCs traditionally allow for weapons qual?

Not sure @ROTC but License Option A&M Corp do firefighting over either winter or spring break right near CStat.

Assuming by EGA you mean Eagle, Globe and Anchor, one doesn't receive that until successful completion of OCS in Quantico after junior year.

Your permanent ones yes but NROTC midshipmen wear gold EGAs on their cammies on the collar where rank is usually worn

License option? Do you mean the Merchant Marines?

And those majors must be in the Corp, as do all NROTC whether those are LO or not.

Does this change apply to Virginia Tech? I haven't heard anything from my unit.

I also am assigned to VT. I got the email with Indoc forms and HRA assignment on March 25. So, as far as I know, those going to Tech are going to Indoc.

Just received word today that Virginia Tech National NROTC scholarship recipients are not attending NSI. I’m sort of bummed. :(

Makes sense to me. I'm not sure how they could resolve their own summer training requirements with NSI, especially since only the Big Navy cadets would be missing. The SMCs have been turning out quality officers for a gazillion years. Nothing will be lost... and remember the Navy has been commissioning midshipmen for years who haven't gone through NSI.

Oh I suspect you'll get plenty of training at VaTech

But up check on the enthusiasm!
