I thought I had seen a post or site or whatever saying that there was an NROTC board in September and early October. However I asked my NROTC coordinator when the next date was and she said it was in late October.

Did something happen to those two other board dates that I saw that would've happen prior to the late October one?

One never really knows when they will start or actually occur. Usually there is at least one a month for Navy Options starting in September but things vary every year, especially this one.

There is a type of NROTC scholarship called an ISR - Immediate Scholarship Reservation. I think they can be given out before the first board meets. I do not know too much about the ISR. Can someone more knowledgable about what an ISR scholarship is please elaborate. Thank you.

P.S. - I think each district recruiting command has a limited number of ISR scholarships that they can give out and that they give these to prospective midshipmen who they really want to land. But if I’m all wrong about this please correct me

Ah ok. I was basing it off of what was on this website https://rotcconsulting.com/2020-2021-navy-rotc-board-dates-and-deadlines/ . It says there's one in September (as you said) and one early October. Was just a bit confused as this one said there were two board dates and one in September as usual but my coordinator said the nearest was late October when I asked.

You are correct; the ISR scholarship can be given by the recruiting district CO at any time they choose. Most seem to do it fairly early in the process from what I’ve seen. Each district has a limited number to give. There is no separate application for the ISR. Applications that fit what the CO is looking for are flagged for consideration. Each CO has discretion in how they award the ISR scholarships. Some make it a competitive interview process; others decide the awards then interview the applicant to confirm the choice. The CO is required to personally interview anyone they award an ISR to. The ISR STILL has to be reviewed by the scholarship board to ensure the applicant Mets the qualifications and assign him/her to a unit.

The young man who was CO of my DS’s NJROTC battalion received a NROTC scholarship very early last year. I remember hearing about it and thinking that the first board had probably not met yet. It may have been an ISR. The SNSI’s can sometimes alert the district CO of applicants to look out for. I think that is what happened.

Just curious if any NROTC candidates have been notified that he / she was awarded or considered for an ISR ? IF yes, what region ?

thx
