Today I logged into my portal and saw that I had an LOA. I have received a Presidential Nomination because my Dad was in the Air Force for 23 years and is a disabled vet. I know only 100 people can get in on one of these nominations, and I don’t know if the LOA means that I am one of the hundred with no chance of it being taken away. I am asking this because I am unsure if I should still pursue my applications for nominations from my congressmen. Thanks for any help or insight.

It is never sure until you get officially accepted. Go after every nomination source you are eligible for. They can only help your odds of eventually being accepted.

I also ask because if I apply to my congressmen and get their nomination, that’s someone else who doesn’t get it who may not have a service connected one.

All that is required is a nomination. You have a nomination. My children withdrew that applications to the congressmen and senators when they received their LOA. However, make sure it is an LOA and not an LOE. You might also reach out to your regional admissions officer at USMA. Now focus on finishing your packet & DODMERB. Congratulations. Also, with the LOA and the NOM, you still may not receive your BFE until mid to late January.

Listen to DrMom. Contact your RC for guidance, but don't stop pursuing other nominations until RC says so.

The application and nomination process is complicated; it is easy to make a fatal mistake (like confusing an LOE for an LOA).

Don’t worry about this. Your Congressmen will be notified once you are accepted and they will move forward; no slot lost from that end. Congrats!

If you have a LOA at this point, the SA is really interested in you. The big thing is to get your 3Q with medical the one that held up my DS this last cycle. He eventually got his waiver worked out and had his acceptance letter uploaded to his account within 3 days. It is best to get medical done early to have plenty of time to address any issues if they come up. The big thing is to hit all the deadlines mentioned on your LOA and work the system. Your Presidential should be enough to get in, but it never hurts to work the congressional angle since it gives the SA more options on where to charge a NOM in the process. It is also nice to have been working with the Congressional staff since they, or your Congressperson, will be the ones calling if and when you get the official appointment.
