Aagh, Covid. Not sure what is open, but here are my favorites: on campus be sure to peak inside Kreuzberg Arena (and pull up a Norwich hockey hype video on YouTube. Imagine yourself in a packed arena cheering on the nationally ranked hockey team). Same goes with Sabine Field. (Pull up a video of the corps marching down and lining the football field). My son’s favorite place at Norwich is Mt Paine. Stop by the campus rec building, maybe you can borrow some snowshoes for a little hike.
Then drive into Northfield. My favorite place to eat is Cornerstone (have a crock of Vermont Mac and cheese). Then drive down the road to the covered bridge and take some family photos.
If you still have time, get off the interstate at the Waterbury exit and take the Waterbury -Stowe road. First, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory, then Cabot cheese with free samples, then the Apple Cider Mill for fresh squeezed cider. Then turn off the road a wee bit and visit the beautiful Von Trapp Lodge (as in the Sound of Music) finally ending up at Stowe resort. Even if everything is closed, it’s still a lovely drive in any season.
