Hello,

I received my score for the ACT and got a 29. Not what I wanted, and am wondering if it's worth sending to West Point. 27 math, 29 science, 30 english, 29 reading, and 10 for the writing portion. I've already sent in my 1360 SAT score (700 english, 660 math), so is it even worth sending in a 29 ACT? Thank you!

I'm told your score depends upon your congressional district. Some are more competitive than others.

Rather than guess, send the scores. USMA superscores, so they’ll recalculate it all for your best total score, regardless of which test.

"Superscoring" per se does not happen across the two tests, only within each test. It appears that USMA will only take the highest score between each test if you took each only once.

Every school that superscores only superscores results from one type of test. I would say send in your scores, just to show them you're still working on it.

According to the ACT Concordance table, a ACT 30 equates to an SAT of 1360-1380 so I would stick with the SAT score.

My son had a lower ACT score and a respectable SAT score.

Recently he told me he found out his SAT score per admissions ... we were surprised. USNA certainly superstores between tests - and his English ACT made his total SAT super score higher.

So we know USNA does.

A 10 on the ACT writing portion is exceptionally good. My DD also received a 10 and was told 10-12 is above what Ivy League schools expect. Although DD received a 33 on her ACT, which is lower than her SAT 1560, the ACT 10 writing is better than her SAT 17 writing so we were told to submit the ACT by WP. Also, the two tests are very different. So although your ACT 29 is slightly lower than your SAT, your score shows real consistency across the subject matter. I hope this helps

To OP: send in all scores
@A1Janitor , right on!
@TheAmericanDefender - be careful - USNA super duper scores, common YOY it is the one academy that does this. But always verify for current year. As of today, USNA website/Admissions/
USNA website/Admissions/Admissions Advice/Advice to 11th graders

cut and pasted:
  • Starting in December of your junior year (if not sooner): Take the ACT and SAT exams early and often. If you do not score well on one, take the other. The Naval Academy combines the highest math and verbal scores from either test to evaluate your competitiveness. Results are accepted as late as February of your application year.

For USMA there is only one correct answer: SEND THE SCORES!!!!

Do not try to substitute your judgement for that of an admissions office that has been doing this for decades. They will select the test that makes you most competitive and you have no way of knowing how that selection is made.

They are not trying to trick you - if admissions decides to use your SAT scores (and likely will in your case - hopefully the SAT test was with Writing), the ACT score will have no impact on your application one way or the other.

I second this! A 10 on writing is super!
