On the West Point SLE subpage on the school's website, the site indicates that the admission for the SLE each year is open to high school juniors beginning in January of the year during which an applicant would complete their third year of high school.

Does anyone know from experience or remember a specific date that the application opens (i.e., Jan. 1 or mid Jan., etc.)?

Also, besides the candidate questionnaire, is an applicant required to fill out an essay in a similar manner to the application process for the USNA summer seminar?

the application last year opened mid January...the 15th if I recall correctly. And no, application is super straightforward and simple. I actually wasn’t sure if I finished the whole thing because it was so short

If I don't get my test scores till mid February is there any chance I'd get in to SLE? Can I leave the application unfinished.. my FFR told me to do this but I feel like I will have no chance at getting into the program.

Did you take any tests before? Like PSAT or something like that? You can always put those in for now and then switch them later.

I think that the app closes in March or April if I remember correctly. Obviously, if you apply the first day, you'll hear back faster, because everything at West Point involves hurrying up and waiting. But by mid February, you'll probably be in the second or third wave. I applied on the 15th and heard back February 2. But that was before the app closed, so some people hadn't even finished applying yet. Which is fine, it's just that slots run out fast, they only let maybe 1000 in or something like that.

You can always submit your test score from February. West Point made some SLE selections in April. They keep going for quite a while, but make sure you open it up because it is first-come-first-served.

My PSAT was very very very low and my PACT was a 25.... I don't think i'd want to use these scores unless its all I have. I'll Just wait till Feb.22 to apply.

I applied with a 1230 the day it opened and got in. Using the PSAT is better because you should naturally improve on the SAT. Acceptances were going out long before February 22nd. Therefore, it would behoove you to use the scores you have and apply early and then send in additional scores. I now have a 1380/29 so it isn't a big deal.

@ontothefray22 is correct. It’s better to apply with what you have and make improvements later than risk not making it because you turned your scores in later than most kids!
