Comparing notes with other NROTC families - we've been pretty lucky...

NROTC confirmed in January
University of Washington accepted in March
NSI placement late March
NROTC medically qualified April

I was surprised at how quickly DoDMerb went. She checked the portal and needed one form. Downloaded from site, filled it out, faxed it in on Friday and by Monday she received the official notice that she was cleared.

Hope everyone else is moving along as easily!

Not to bring up a potential fly in the ointment, but have you been able to lay eyes upon the elusive sickle cell test? Then I think the rest is easy.

NSI packet just mailed out.

Starting DODMERB process. This has me worried for DS. We already know he's going to need some waiver or acceptance until he is cleared for a current medication. I'm hoping that its as easy as paying for the 1st semester and then reimbursement once the scholarship is activated. That said, being an aviator, I've seen too many seemingly healthy adults DQ'd for military service, pilot's medical, etc... for some random medical issue or family history that doesn't outwardly appear to be performance limiting or potential for a future health risk. 🙏

NROTC family here.
  • We had DODMERB's complete from SA applications.
  • Put in the deposit for VMI this week.
  • NSI packet mailed and an assignment one day after receiving it 🏎️💨. (Sickle Cell took a few days from a local clinic)
  • Enjoying our DS's last week of school and all the festivities. 🥳
This site has been so helpful. 🙌

Our son sent in NSI packet two weeks ago. Should we be concerned that he hasn’t received placement yet? He emailed to make sure it was received but he hasn’t heard back.

My DS has DODMERB complete for SA application. Does he need to redo things for NSI or can he get them to pull the physical and eye exam from the DODMERB?

We were able to get sickle cell results from DD’s newborn blood screen. It took a bit of time , but we got it without having to do new test .

Does anyone know how we can obtain information from DS eye exam for DODMERB? They will not schedule his NSI without it even though he has DODMERB cleared.

NSI can be scheduled with either DODMERB clearance or with a standard sports physical.

Did something change in terms of eye exams after DODMERB? Otherwise, it is best to contact the unit and get their advice.

My DS was contacted by the CMGO after submitting his NSI paperwork, asking for the results of a recent eye exam. He told the CMGO that he is dodmerb qualified. The CMGO is now asking for him to obtain the results of his eye exam from DODMETS. We don't have access to that. My DS is getting anxious because he's not sure what else we can provide or how to get it.

Well I can't really get I to medical issues but if he relays that to the CMGO office they will advise the best way forward. The HRA at his unit should be able to obtain DODMERB and DoDMETS information, and the doctor's office that did the exam should also be able to provide a copy.

Applicants use DODMETS to enter their information so he should have access to that.

Thank you so much for you responses! He was able to find the detailed information of the exams to send to the CMGO on DODMETS. Crossing fingers that he should be good to go from here.
