Hello, there seems to be some conflicting information when I search the forums and talk to others. Is it okay if I use a sophomore teacher for my SOE, rather than a junior year teacher?

Thanks

I believe SAs specify junior-year teachers from specific classes. You should have a very good reason for deviating from that direction.

To get the definitive word, go to each SA’s website. This forum is incredibly helpful, but SA websites should always be your first go-to.

Okay after reading the website it does not specify junior year teacher. I'm inclined to understand that this means I can use my sophomore teacher, which would be great because he was my tennis coach as well and he's spent hours upon hours around me during season every year, so he knows me a lot more than my other teachers.

I would recommend reaching out to your Field Force Rep. You could always have your coach do a Letter of Recommendation

I contacted my Regional Counselor and she said in my circumstances it was possible. Im sure if there is a valid reason you will be able to get an evaluation from your 10th grade teacher

I didn't have a particularly good relationship with my junior year teacher - partially my fault, but I digress. I used my sophomore year English teacher for my SOE because I knew him better and had no issues! (Also no one ever really asked about it? I just did what made sense for me.)

The best advice I can give is to read everything at WestPoint.edu. The finer points and nuances can be clarified on SAF with access to the many been-there-done-that knowledgeable members here, but most of the info you'll need is covered on the website.
