My son texted me this morning to let me know that he had spoken with the BGO he interviewed with last year, and they are going to assign him a different one for this cycle.

For the resident BGOs here, is that typical? He said it was because they don't want to have the same interview. Does that make sense, and is it common practice??

I know he will be fine either way, but I was just curious as to what is the standard procedure.

(On another note, one of his nomination apps is due by COB today, but he is still waiting on one of the recommendation letters and having a hard time reaching the person. Supposedly she got back to him and will try to get it done, but it appears it is going to be another nail biter situation ........)

If it comes down to the last hours, you may want to have you son reach out to MOC to explain what is going on with that last LOR.

Yes, it is typical to assign a different BGO for re-applicants.

When the board reviews the packages for a re-applicant, everything from previous year is available to review, so they like to have a new set of eyes.
I would assume in large areas without many BGOs, it could be the case where you can get the same one.

I wouldn’t read into this either way.

Also, new BGO’s come into play. And BGO’s leave. And especially when applicants reach out early, say sophomore year, when it comes time to actually assign them, BGO assignments/schools may have changed.

My AC reassigned schools this year. We had several new BGO’s in our state. IMO, its a good thing. Gets a different perspective. And like stated already, a reapplicants package is available for review.

He updated me later in the morning that his old teacher was able to get the LOR in for the nom application.

And he's reviewing his base USNA app to make sure he didn't miss anything, and proofreading everything to hit submit over the next few days.

I'll let him know this is a typical scenario. Thanks, all!
