Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

Perhaps ROTC is something to look into once you get your citizenship.

Our DS has not done traditional school sports, but has done Taekwondo for 10 years and is a 3rd degree black belt. Making a commitment and keeping it over time is important and I believe shows dedication. If the school schedule doesn't work for you, commit to TKD and excel at it. If you aren't on the sparring team, try it. Sparring is great conditioning and competing is a valuable experience.
The only thing that caught my eye was you stating you didn't do tennis at school because it took too much time. If it interferes with class schedules (weird that your school does that) I understand. If it is a matter of juggling 3 hour practices and homework, chores, commute etc., then you might have to get better at time management.
Juggling a hefty class load, sports and EC's well is part of what makes a candidate a great candidate.
Good luck to you, and congrats on your soon to be citizenship.

While I’m sure you respect your Father’s opinion, how do you feel about waiting a year? It is your decision to make, no one else’s.

I believe waiting a year is fine, but you’ve got to remember I live under my father’s roof. He’s not super traditional on anything really, but his word is “law” I answer with a yes or no. Also, if I wait a year and still don’t get into the academy, I will have “Wasted” a year for nothing.

I attend a very hard school where everyone is very competitive. Tennis is a big thing at my school, and doing TKD is a huge part of my life. Tennis at my school is like football, where they practice during school hours and do competition throughout the week. I’ve been doing since I was 7, and have done the Bo Staff for as long as I can remember. I don’t spar due to a slight medical problem (I can’t bruise my left kidney, if I did there would be many major complications) so due to it, I do traditional for that very reason.

Waiting a year for citizenship does not mean sitting on the couch eating bon bons and doing nothing. There are plenty of things you can do to improve your chances at an appointment as well as continuing your education.
Why not do college and enroll in ROTC as a programmer, then apply to the Academy the following year? If you don’t get accepted, continue in your current college and ROTC program. You can still earn your degree as well as commission without “waisting” a year.
Your kidney sounds like it may pose a DODMERB issue however.
