spondylolysis waiver

Can you help? Just got a request for Spondylosis doctor records. Any advice on getting a waiver for this?
Help!!!!I'm a mom to 18-year-old! He was told that he needed a waiver from MEPS due to spondylosis. When Luke was 8 or 9 it was accidentally noticed on a Scan when they were ruling out appendicitis during a fever virus episode. We immediately brought Luke to the best Orthopedic Dr in the state and he told my husband and I to not even bring it up to Luke and let him live a normal life. He won't have any issues. So Luke has never had issues and played competitive sports and never had any pain or residual effects. I'm not even sure if Luke knew about it since it happened when he was 9 and it was conversations between his Dr and us. Fast forward to 2023. Luke was just disqualified at MEPs. We want to the orthopedic Dr. And he wrote a letter and we gave it to his recruiter. We have had horrible communication with his recruiter after he was DQ’d at MEPs. He doesn't return. Phone Calls and is not giving any help or direction with the waiver process. Last week his recruiter told Luke and myself through text and call his waiver was accepted. We were thrilled! Then after not hearing anything from the recruiter. I called him and he finally answered and said Luke’s waiver has not been approved. I was working so I didn't get the details but have called and left more messages. Where do we go from here? Please help!!!!!

Matt,

You can PM me too. VAEC was super helpful with invaluable advice in our case! My son also has spondylolisthesis and was denied his USNA waiver in early May after a 2 month battle....it was a NIGHTMARE!!! I'll be happy to share our experience, but I will tell you it was hopeless!

Highly recommend you don’t use personally identifying information here, or any public anonymous forum. Especially regarding medical (or financial) situations. Ie your sons name and your personal email.

Your son (not mom/dad) should be contacting his medical contact. Perhaps they aren’t returning your calls bc they can only speak with your son (legal adult). The recruiter isn’t involved in the medical process/decisions. That’s where the answers to your sons questions will be found.

BTW, this is also a DODMERB thread, which is a different agency than MEPS. It’s also a REALLY old one.
