Has anyone out there had a sports hernia before entering the Academy?
What's been your lessons learned?
Does this disqualify entrance?

An appointee must update any changes to medical history with DoDMERB. Then comply with what they ask for. There comes a go/no go point where there is not enough of a healing window.

Q/DQ decided by DoDMERB
Waiver granted/denied (after independent review is by SA "if"competitive for an offer of appointment)
Whatever DoDMERB or the waiver authority asks for:wiggle:

Wondering what is "changes to medical history"? If the hernia just healed after several weeks of rest and PT, and back to 100% activity, does it count as a change to report?

It’s part of the history now. Before, there was presumably no history of a sports hernia. Now, there is a history, and the change and outcome should be updated as part of the history.

Got it. That said, any doctor visit is a history and should be reported? Sorry for ignorance, learning a lot here. Thanks.

The instructions for admitted persons to USMA defines change in medical status. Review that portion of the instructions. DS had X-ray in early March that revealed evidence of a healing stress fracture after being medically qualified and receiving appointment. He emailed admissions and his contact with DoDMERB stating his diagnosis, that the only treatment was rest, that he was authorized to gradually resume running as of a certain date and requested next steps. Was medically DQ’d by DoDMERB. USMA then requested waiver and it was granted. This all happened within about a 3 week timeframe. In our case no additional medical information was requested other than his statements.

If you have it, report it.

If it requires a DR, and PT, and wasn’t previously report to DODMERB as part of your medical, update DODMERB.

You can’t NOT update DODMERB.
•It opens yourself up for issues down the road.
•It’s required that you do.
•And it’s the right thing to do. Period.
