Good Morning Everyone:
My son attends a very small college preparatory high school. He's not on any sports teams, because the school doesn't have any.

He has: 4.6 GPA, 1450 SAT,
Founder/President of Model United Nations Team (MUN), won many national level competitions,
ASB Public Relations Manager,
Board Member/Emcee for orchestra,
Performed cello in Germany, Austria and Italy, Congressional Award Gold Medalist,
Boys State qualified.

In addition, he trains martial arts, runs marathon, and lifts weights independently in preparation for the candidate fitness assessment.

What're his chances of receiving appointment to the USMA? Would not being on a sports team work against him? Thank you.

Excellent resume imo.

The chances of appointment depends on his competition.

He will be competitive.

About 10% of SA cadets/mids did not play a varsity sport in high school. Varsity-level participation is valued for the discipline, teamwork, perseverance, determination and time management that are required — all important personal attributes for cadets/mids. So if a candidate can demonstrate that they have those attributes, honed in environments outside varsity sports, then they can be competitive.

My son was homeschooled, so school sports were not an option. So instead, he participated in town rec sports. We found that to be the best solution for sports.
He played hockey starting at age 7 and karate starting at age 8. He continued with both up through 12th grade. He is now at WP.

Looks like a strong resume overall - congrats. My input:

- Academics (60% of WCS) - very strong, keep it up
- Leadership (30%) - Solid. Seek club officer positions. Submit the sports he does have, as Health/Wellness/Fitness and Karate are sports. Seek possibilities for captain type positions in those as well.
- CFA (10%) - Practice each event and do several "full rehearsal" practices.

And as always:
- Academies - take a look at all of them...include ROTC as a Plan B
- Nominations - Apply for all that are applicable
