I know the mids get time off in March for Spring break. What about Easter? Is there enough time for a flight home? Any suggestions from seasoned parents on how this works would be appreciated.

I don't believe there are federal holidays around Easter. If I recall correctly, it was just another WE. Don't think you'll have time for a flight home. But someone there can can correct me if I'm wrong.

No time off last year for Easter. It would be mighty tough to schedule a flight home on a weekend. Maybe parents could travel to USNA?

If you're a plebe parent and cost is an issue, definitely go for Commissioning Week vs. Easter. While Easter is an important religious (and secular) holiday, it's not a big deal at USNA. There will be church services for those who wish to attend. But other than that, it's like any other WE. IMO, it's not worth coming to USNA for unless you live w/in driving distance and/or money is not an issue. Even then, your mid may well be studying for 12-weekers or finals (depending on timing of Easter) and may not want to spend too much time away from the books!

Thanks all, this really helps. We were debating about flying out and having some time with our Plebe since it sounds like there would be no time for a flight home, but if they are going to be busy, it might not be worth it???? We were thinking of attending chapel withi him and perhaps taking him out to eat, Would they get any town liberty on that Sunday? Sounds doubtful.

lovethenavy: I'm guessing town liberty would be just for Saturday, like on most weekends.

Thanks Jenny! That was what I was afraid of...does the Dry Dock serve Ham???:yllol:

Hi,

Last year, the Plebes were allowed off the yard on Easter Sunday. I don't remember the time liberty started but do recall that everyone had to be back by 6 p.m.
