Stanford to invite ROTC to return to campus

Have to say this is what caught my eye in the article.

Much of the discussion focused on the an against transgender people serving in the armed forces,

The majority of the discussion was about transgender?

Look I don't care left, or right about what you do with your body, but I would think the conflicts we are involved in and 8 American soldiers being killed by an Afghani pilot should have been a bigger discussion than transgender banning.

In the end of the day I don't put much relevance in colleges opening up to allow them back, the fact was stated Stanford already had students who are in ROTC. Only difference is they are not going x-town for training. We are not discussing that students at Stanford can now join ROTC for the 1st time. It was already there, but now there will be a room or several rooms on campus for ROTC to be housed in.

Not sure why Stanford and some of the Ivies really need their own NROTC units -- From what I have seen, very few NROTC kids actually get accepted to these top universities, because their stats just aren't strong enough. In this era of reducing budgetse, it seems hard to justify the fixed cost of a Navy staff and building at a school where maybe a few kids will be able to participate each year.

I agree it doesn't make sense when Obama wants to cut 1 TRILLION from the DoD over the next decade. That being stated, I go back to the classic statement in the military...That is a decision made by a pay grade higher than me!
