I am considering Air Force academy among other options but I had someone tell me that if I didn’t want to be in a stem field then I shouldn’t go. He said that almost all cadets are stem involved but that’s not something I want to do. How much truth is there to this?

Have you gone onto the USAFA website and reviewed the graduation requirements? You’d see that all cadets graduate with a B.S. degree — heavy on STEM requirements — but it could be in a humanities field such as English, history or philosophy. The Air Force is a highly technical branch of the military. If you’re not into STEM subjects, you’ll likely struggle at USAFA.

Get online and read every tab, link, pulldown and page. Familiarize yourself with the academic, military and physical curriculum, as well as the entry requirements and service obligation afterwards. Rely on your own primary research and come to your own conclusions. SAs are not typically colleges, and they require careful research of the facts.

My DS is a Political Science major at the academy. He will graduate with a BS and needs to take an stem related courses (biology, engineering math, etc), but there are also a lot of Social Science courses and Humanities.

Everyone at USAFA will take four classes in some combination of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. In addition, Calculus I and II, one Computer Science course, and four engineering courses (one affectionately known as Angry Mech) are required. These classes are all part of the core curriculum regardless of major.
