Still in the game

Hi prepswimmom,

Yes, he was awarded NROTC at Notre Dame...NROTC actually chased him down for his paperwork, interviews, etc. He received scholarship shortly after finishing his app. That combined with some special invites and strong encouragement from USNA to get his app in asap leaves him and us scratching our heads. DS has elected to remain on the waitlist, emailed USNA to confirm, forwarded transcripts..again, and his principal sent a letter on his behalf.

We do not know who from our district, or NH received appointments.
Speaking to others we fear our BGO could be where the issue lies, some other strong candidates have been left behind that went through him.

Seems like a very bad year for Academy admissions on many fronts. I'm sure your DS will soar at ND - although my DH, a BC grad looks at ND as the EVIL EMPIRE. I don't share his outlook and wish your son every success.

Chin up people. If you are still in the game, on the island, stalking the mailbox......how great is that?! Best of luck to all this week. I hope some BFE's find their way your way!

DS tonight said "I'm just so excited." I asked what he was excited about and he said, "Going to college!" I asked if his disappointment about the Naval Academy had subsided. He said "The biggest disappointment of my life was not getting in. But I am looking forward to graduating and being in college."

If your DS/DD does not make it, they will MAKE it! Good luck as you enter the final few days.

TWE over the weekend for DS... He's off and excited for USMMA. He knew he could get where he wants to be with either appointment. So proud of him!

Granite mom may I ask where your BGO officer lived (town) ? Just wondering if we had the same one .

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I think you are giving your BGO way too much credit. Yes, there is an interview with the BGO as part of the application process but I was told it's just one minor variable, not a make or break thing at all.
My son's interactions with his BGO have been so limited and he has not heard a peep from him since he received his appointment in November. It's hard to believe other than checking a box, he had any impact on his circumstances.
That would be terrible if it were the case for you however.

Sounds just like my DS. Exact same sentiments expressed but so excited for his future. Best of luck.

Currey ... so sorry .. sounds like they are sending your correspondence by carrier pigeon

DS just received and email stating that he is on the WL for PREP for NAPS or one of the civilian programs. Official mail to follow. Still putting our deposit down for PLAN B. The wait continues. So maybe check your email. His was in his SPAM folder.

Our DS interviewed in Concord...BGO was an attorney. Meeting was in remote barn office that shared space with a wedding venue.

Zero contact, support, or guidance through the process.

Ok ,we had different ones. Ours hadn't done any BG work in forever. Our original BGO moved out West and they had to find one to do my sons stuff. We met at his house in the Franklin area. He was nice but contacted my son months after his interview because he had messed up on the entry to the academy or something. We interviewed in early August , my sons application was done mid august and he contacted us in Oct about the problem. We had zero contact and guidance also. It took 2 months to get a new BGO when my son found out the first had moved , then another month for the new one to contact him back.

Son got a phone call from the Academy Medical Officer. She needed his body fat percentage. He hoping to play football. HOPE THIS IS A GOOD SIGN

Got the email that DS is on wait list for NAPS. Will proceed with Plan B and hope for room at NAPS.

Good luck to all as you explore your options. TWE in MA. dated 4/7, mailed 4/9, rcvd over weekend while we were away exploring our options. Very glad the wait is over and we can objectively look at all DS's options. This was quite the process. I've never posted, but I've read everything from start to finish.

Mrs. M and prepswimmom: I hope you had a fabulous dinner in DC.

Mrs. M: It was nice meeting you.
