Stopped in their tracks: US Army fails to make top 3 in NATO tank challenge

15 years ago was 2001...and for 10 of those years, we had more money than we knew what to do with (literally). So where'd all this atrophy come from?

Look above. You figure out how we are more than 19 trillion in the hole. Who doubled down on Bush? Look above.

You didn't answer the question. We had oodles of money for 2/3 of the period of "atrophy." So why the atrophy?

I did answer the question look at my other post. Now, answer my question - how did we get more than 19 trillion in the hole--not to mention 100 trillion in unpaid liabilities? When you answer that question you may understand my answer in the above answer.

Cga82, please stop with the comments regarding liberal agendas and Obamaite comments. It adds zero to the discussion, are inflammatory and just accusations. You and I know nothing of someone's political affiliation unless they say so. The great part of this nation is there are plenty of opinions and we can all have them. Just because you don't like someone's doesn't make your opinion right either. I love a good, intelligent debate, let's keep them that way.

Hoops sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but to be a Liberal and Obama supporter(past and present) is considered a badge of happiness to liberals. If someone here that I used the word liberal to help understand them is not liberal then I apologize to them. But, I have yet to hear that some I called a liberal to deny such. If they come forward I will apologize to them.

Certainly, to call many of our Great Generals and many of our Great Presidents(many founding fathers at that) "old white racist" was given a clear positive nod of okay. To be called a Liberal is okay and is a faction in our society. To be a Liberal is okay it's just wrong--my opinion.

I just re-read the thread where does someone reference 'old white racist' in here? Was that in another thread? I have no idea what context it was used in, so I can't speak to that as it seems there are so many of these threads that are just ridiculous. I get it, you aren't happy with the military or the current administration. You have that right. Guess what? Neither am I. But I don't feel the need to post random links on a forum for potential candidates to SAs and other commissioning sources that just end in total discourse. How is this helping our future military officers learn anything except how to not debate things online?

The military goes through these phases after every war, this just happens to be an extremely long one fought in two geographic areas. I served on both sides of 9/11 and saw the difference in funding. It was raining money for a great deal of time. That pace is unsustainable. Sure many opinions on how the US budget should look and how to prepare our future forces. Bottom line is good fundamentals (just like a sport) and leadership can adapt to many environments. As a pre-9/11 officer, I did 3 days of urban and convoy training over 18 months. I spent my time in forests or jungles digging holes. A lot of good that did me. But we adapted and our future forces will too. Each MEF, fleet, etc has their designated areas of operations. They look at the threat and train for it. Those in Japan aren't been flown in for dessert training because it isn't their AOR. Now if they are tagged for it, they do. The USMC has very few tanks, but if they are anything like the Army, they have spent a good portion of their careers as grunts. Its the military's leaderships job to create plans to build back those basic tank principles just like the USMC must find its amphibious roots again. That doesn't happen overnight. Its our current military mid level and senior officers have spent their whole careers on up to half of them at war. Now this is their challenge and fight just as the leaders did this after the Gulf War.

I think scout can help you here and throw some new twist on it.

As you stated, we all have opinions and mine is that I disagree with you. Sally and Johnny are most likely over 18 and will be able to engage in war and vote. They need to know as much as possible, especially, when our Armed Forces have Atrophied. They need to start to reason with this, and figure it out and fix it. They got dumped on by our recent decades of incompetence and neglect. This is what this discussion is all about. Scout gives the liberal stance of "yawn, didn't study like the other guys" meaning who cares nothing to see here-cover it up. As I stated, anyone to just brush this is off is foolish for the world is taking note--This is just another sign of a continuing (on steroids) weakening military.

And these young kids have 4 years to learn to be officers and 10-30 years to rise to a rank before they are in a role to fix the politics and budgets you mention. As company grade officers their focus shouldn't be on the politics but solid leadership skills and tactics or their platoon and divisions needed. I was a young officer who woke up to a new world after 9/11. These kids could to. Trying to guess the climate of 4, 10, 15, 30 years from now in terms of funding, etc is just blind guessing. Yes they can vote, but guess what? Posting random articles that you cherry picked and poorly debate is only turning them off greatly to any of this.

I disagree again. These young men and women not kids will be confronted with decisions in short order. They should learn all they can now. I do mean all they can. You are not the only one here with experience. These young men and women may have learned something here that may be applied to a real life decisions. Just like being taught to think early by your parents.

The values of Honor and Integrity can be learned even on this thread and the National Anthem thread.

Not sure how good the training is in the military for preparing people to work for a reasonable budget...

I meant to say
Pledge of Allegiance Thread not National Anthem.

I thought this was about atrophy of our troops and equipment and now it's about learning honor and integrity?

Don't try to make sense of it all....

The exchanges here have certainly been entertaining....

I tried my best LITS to keep it on point and have a debate. I have ignored the majority of the posts in the past but guess so couldn't let it go today. I am one who can agree to disagree. The greatness of America, debate and freedom of thought.

Honor is about merit, respect, a good name and esteem. What type of merit, respect, good esteem and good name did the U.S Army Tank squad get? HONOR - is everything

Integrity is about being complete. I don't think finishing in 3rd or 4th place is complete. It's a failure as the article says. Honor and integrity were lost that day and others took notice. This is not "Greatness of America" as you say.
