Summer Cruises after Plebe Year

I would appreciate some insight on some of the "choices" for summer assignments Plebes are requesting in the near future. What are the most competitive and/or requested assignments.....Summer Seminar staff ?

You could hop in a YP, and drive in the way of an operational Coast Guard cutter heading to the Cape Cod Canal....oh wait, that's already been done.

There is also a sailing cruise on one of the Navy's 44ft sailboats. You spend a little over a week sailing around the Bay and then sail to Newport RI, spend a few days there and then sail back to Annapolis.

Honestly, the best people with whom to discuss this are youngsters. If you're currently a plebe, that should be no problem. If you're not a plebe, don't worry about your youngerster summer until you are a plebe as what you do during the summer changes from year to year, so what is available/desireable now may not be next summer.

You can do any number of MARSOT trainings, but most require the MARSOT screener (not a huge deal). Those are things like jump school or mountain warfare school or air assault. A lot of mids also go on NOLS courses, and then of course the summer cruise. Other options are NASS or STEM, and then voluntary or involuntary summer school.
