T-38 Crash

My son graduated from Vance in August and flew the T-38. This was something we always worried about. I have to imagine that it was instructor and student who died in the plane crash. We are heartbroken by this. The students for the most parts are kids and I cant imagine what their parents and family are going through. The instructors at VAnce are all good men and women, many with spouses and children. Its absolutely terrible.

Prayers for their families.

I talked to Son #1 this morning about this. They’ve been dealing with it as a squadron because several of his Viper FTU students came from Vance.

This is something that you’ll deal with as a parent of a service member and it’s never easy. Last month when an F-16 went down in the evening at Holloman (and knowing that he was flying nights) I was up most of the night waiting. Because of the rules for disseminating information after an incident we didn’t have any news from them. A quick Snapchat from our DIL with her smiling was enough to let us know he was ok without sharing any info. Then we waited several days to hear from him.

The best thing you can do is just wait and not pressure them for info.

I love the idea of coded Snapchats!

The deceased are a 2nd Lt and Lt Col.
where did you hear about this. I dont know if there are more than 1 LT Col teaching the T-38, but met the LT. Colonel who is in charge of th T-38. My son flew with him several times

The student involved in this accident was in my squadron for a year. While we weren't particularly close friends, I remember him well.

It's especially sobering when this kind of thing happens to someone you know. I have heard colonels and generals speak before of losing friends, but had never experienced it firsthand. I guess it's a reminder of how "small" the Air Force is and how "real" a military career truly is. There's a reason why there's a Fallen Grad wall on the Tzo.

Your Air Force family misses you, Travis. It was a privilege to have known you. Here's a toast...
