Test Scores for SLS?

That would be awesome! Do you swim for a club team?
I'm in the same boat as you...I sent in my application before reading these threads and realized that I probably should've elaborate more in the 'remarks' section. hopefully someone more experienced can answer that question....

also in addition to this question and the question of "what is the best method of contact?", what is a reasonable amount of time to wait for a response to the addition of information, or if there is even a response? and also, when might we be notified whether we've been accepted or not accepted? Thanks!

Well, today I got a letter from admissions dated December 15.

It reads: "Thanks so much for your interest in attending the 35th Annual Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point. While high demand for the seminar prevents us from hosting you this year, your application was certainly impressive and we've confirmed you as a candidate for admission."
Also, it has information on the steps to admission.

Is this the end of the road for SLS, or may I be accepted in the future if I got better SAT scores?

My first SATs in November: 570CR, 580M, 560W.

I received a letter yesterday dated December 16 with my candidate log-in information and steps for admisson. It didn't say anything about SLS. Should this be cause for concern?

Hmm, wasn't like mine? Maybe you are still in the running and I just got booted early?

Last year when my son went to the AFA's SS, we did have things to fill out on the computer. Things that would include what classes he was interested in, how he was going to arrive and depart the academy, insurance information and the payment coupon to print and send.

AVT you might be out of the running for SLS but don't give up on your SA. Keep working on getting the best grades, best ACT and SAT scores, work on your fitness and getting the best score you can, volunteering, participating in sports, having a job and working on leadership positions.

Also, be working on getting your letters of reference in line. The earlier you apply for your SA the better.

Good Luck!

Hmm, I think, and hope, that my SATs were the only problem. I had a great gpa and rank. I placed officer of club, NHS, and 3 years of track.

Good. Having a job and volunteering will help. Remember they are looking at the whole person.

Good Luck.

rejection

son had same letter as AVT first SAT 490W 560V 610M, top 10% of class all honors courses, sports, clubs and leadship positions. SAT's will come up. Too bad as he wanted the experience to see WP up close and personal to compare vs ROTC ???

Try the ACT!!! It's different. For me, it was a lot easier. Take them both as much as possible, but I'd highly recommend the ACT.

Ok, I haven't gotten the letter yet, but today I called admissions. The admissions rep said I got accepted to SLS and they sent a letter on 16 December. I'm hoping the official letter comes today!

Would I still have a chance at SLS if I improve scores?
Edit: I called admissions and my SATS were the problem, if I improve them I have a chance at SLS

Good luck bring up those SATs! It seems kind of surprising that mediocre test scores would completelyoffset the rest of an excellent application.

test scores are a major part of the academic section, 2nd most important behind class rank. If no class rank, then the tests become most important. Test scores that are average nationally are below average for a West Point applicant.

To those with low test scores, that is what hurts you. I am not directly involved with the decision-making process, so I do not know, BUT: I remember when I attended SLS last year, I was a bit humbled by the multitude of people with ACT scores in the 32+ range.

I called them today and I was told I would soon recieve a letter, but not whether I was accepted or not. Is that an indicator of anything?

Hmm... I believe if you just call them they can tell you if you are accepted or not. Think you are supposed to inquire about this first.

I did ask if I had been accepted, but they didn't tell me, just that I'd soon get a letter about my status.

Got a letter in the mail yesterday encouraging me to fill out a candidate questionnaire and apply for SLS. Too bad I already did both of those things... I've been trying to get in touch with admissions since Monday by email and phone but I guess the Southeast person is gone for Christmas break. Oh well
