All,

I want to personally thank all of you here on this forum. The advice I've received here has been invaluable. The support of you all has been incredible.

I'd like to personally thank @THmom @AROTC-dad @Devil Doc @Heatherg21 and @Capt MJ for all supporting me. You guys are all incredible.

A year ago, when I thought I was gonna make this post, I thought it'd be on better terms. I checked my DoDMERB portal today, to see that my file had been withdrawn by admissions. i.e. they won't be considering a waiver for me at this time. I haven't gotten the TWE yet, but I know it'll be on its way soon.

It's sad, knowing I'll never get to go to USMA. I feel like I let lots of people down, but mostly I'm disappointed in myself. I always pictured myself in front of my squad leader saying "Sir, there are 144 days until Army beats the hell out of Navy." But I know now that'll never happen.

I put lots of work into my application. I developed a structured routine this year, which helped contribute to my success. I worked my a** off and got my first 2 consecutive A's in advanced math, I took a heavy course load of 5 AP classes, and sacrificed a lot of my senior year to studying. While it was tough at the time, I realize now I've developed great characteristics that will help me in college.

I won't re-apply, I know it's hard to see into the future, but I know for sure I don't want to add another year onto my commission just to go to USMA. Ole Miss is waiting for me down south. I wish I could go back in time to my little 7th grade self (who was sitting in the Grove when the rebels beat #1 Bama in 2014) and said "I know you wanna go here. Don't worry. You'll work hard, you'll develop friendships, you'll grow, you'll become confident in yourself, and you'll change the world."

That's always been the goal, after all. Change the world.

While it's sad for me, I'm genuinely happy for all users who've been appointed this far! Make the most of your opportunity!!

I'll be taking a leave of absence from the forums for a while, just to reconnect with some things I may have lost sight of. Rest assured I'll be back for the 3rd AROTC board ;)

Man, this really choked me up...I can assure you that you haven't let anyone down. Some things are just out of your control. You clearly have your head on your shoulders so I have no doubt you will succeed in your future endeavors regardless of what they are. My fingers are crossed for you on the 3rd AROTC board. I hope to someday have the honor of serving alongside you. Just keep your head up and keep driving forward. WE ARE ALL HERE FOR YOU!
 
@Jarhead713 We have not interacted one-on-one, but I have followed your posts. You have been an integral part of the heart and soul of this community. You are exceptional. That's right exceptional. You have giftings that at the moment, I am challenged to articulate. I am sorry for the sense of loss you are feeling right now, and the death of this dream. In my heart, I feel it with you....as do many of us on this forum. I know one thing with 100% certainty...you have an incredible calling on your life, and you can trust that God has a better plan for your future than you can ever imagine for yourself!

Oh my goodness. You have been wonderful to follow and I will be pulling for you for the 3 rd board. My DS and I just toured the AROTC program at Ole Miss and it was really great. Praying for the 3 AROTC BOARD. The grove is beautiful and the campus seems wonderful. If you get the AROTC scholarship they actually match room and board, so it would be a full ride. I love your attitude and any campus would be lucky to have you as a student and a Cadet .
 
That's right. Any campus would be lucky to have you. You're the same age as I am, and it is honestly inspiring for me to read this. You demonstrate awesome maturity and remarkable toughness. You will fulfill your highest ambition later on: changing the world (with or without USMA). I have no doubts.

Best wishes! I am choked up too after reading your post. I have been following your posts for awhile; long before I ever registered on this site. Your maturity is pretty amazing for a young man. My DD had the same fate, a USMA "withdrawn" status and while it's heartbreaking, she is planning to reapply again next year. But I understand your decision making. You will do well no matter where you end up. Ole Miss will be lucky to have you!
 
@Jarhead713, I’m honored for the shout-out! We’ve been sharking around these circles for months together, and while I’ll miss you until the 3rd Board heats up, I get it. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your senior year, holding your head up high for the quality person you are and what you have accomplished. Wherever you end up, those around you will be lucky to be in your presence....your candid, articulate, and humorous insights will help people gel and get through anything. 👊
 
See ‘ya later!! You got this. Whatever “this” is. These posts every year are the ones That are heartbreaking to read. We are disappointed with you. But this won’t even matter to you someday....will be a “story” of your amazing life journey! And you HAVE grown and learned along the way. You know that.

Come back and check in every now and again. And yes, go enjoy your LAST LASTS of your senior year!! With your friends and family.

Looking forward to hearing about your AROTC - same scenario for my DD with USMA - ultimately withdrawn - and still no word on AROTC. But she is headed for USCGA R-day on June 29 so that back-up is no longer necessary.
Army ROTC process this year seems delayed from 2 years ago when my oldest went through the process and ultimately received her 4-year in April. You will be very successful.

I have no doubt as to your future success, your mental acumen is impressive for any age, and will take you far.
