PBY "STRAWBERRY 5" WAS THE PLANE THAT FOUND THE JAPANESE CARRIERS AT THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY WHICH BECAME THE TURNING POINT IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF WWII.

This video story is of PBY-5A CATALINA (Strawberry 5), it's discovery and restoration for the US Navy museum in San Diego. It was the only remaining intact PBY 5 Catalina remaining in the World, and it was discovered in South Africa.

Cool video and great plane!

It is not the only PBY-5A out there. Kermit Weeks has one at Fantasy of Flight down in FL.

Thanks for posting! One of my favorite planes of all time.

Got me thinking... anyone remember the name of the WWII movie about the Black Cat? Had the variant of the Catalina with either cannons or twin 50s in the nose and they were strafing a ship.
