The Three Bombers Flew Over My House

Saw the smoke from the BUFF. But they were about 2000 feet and I ran back inside before I smelled anything.

Whoa that’s so cool. I live about 5 min’s door to door from our airport. We used to have F16’s from the air guard base, and we could watch (hear, feel, smell) them when they practiced. Also their huge helicopters. We are on a hilltop/elevation change for the airport, on the approach, and they fly in formation right over our deck. Shake the house. Feels like we could almost pluck them from the sky the seem so close.

It would be so cool to see the bombers. I’ve seen them on the ground, not in flight though. Speaking of, didn’t see them during the Super Bowl. We’re they shown on TV?

They showed the flyover on TV right after the National Anthem. I saw them practicing on Friday night too. On Friday there was a B-52 in the center and a B-1 on each wing in formation. I was afraid we wouldn’t get to see the B-2, but it was here yesterday.

The first time I ever got close to a B-2 was at an air show with my Dad. He had a Minolta SLR camera with their autofocus lens. The autofocus system used RADAR and it kept going in and out of focus when he pointed it at the B-2. Apparently that stuff works, because he had to switch to manual focus to get a shot. When we figured out what was going on, we both looked at each other and said "whoa!", at the same time.

The camera couldn't "see" the aircraft. It was like it wasn't there. That was cool.

Nothing against bombers but Super Bowls warrant jet fly-bys. Jets really amps up the crowd. Next year I’d love to see a flight of Navy F-18 Hornets or the Air Force’s new model F-15X Super Eagle. Also, bring back Bruno Mars for the half-time show.

Well, the bombers ARE jets, but I know what you mean about fighters. However, nothing compares to the sound of a B-52 with its eight engines roaring over at low altitude.

A very cool experience I had was playing golf at McDill Air Force Base while the blue angels were practicing for an airshow and flying over so low I could have hit them with a pitching wedge.

My daughter who lives in St. Pete sent me a nice video of the bombers flying over the bay on their way inbound.

I loved the flyover. In my recollections, most flyovers are multiples of the same airframe. This is the first time I remember seeing multiple airframes in one for 'sports, events'. It was cool.
We have a military base here, and the flyovers are daily. Large transports, dark scary looking helicopters, jets, and drones. Then, during fire season, the fire planes. We have sat in the yard, with adult beverages and watched the fire planes head out. You can clearly see the tail numbers. In a fire about an hour away, they could fly round trip before I could finish my beer.

I have seen some flyovers at Army/Navy and graduation. Had what seemed like a private air show when the Blue Angels were practicing over Narragansett Bay for the Quonset air show. The most impressive was when I was watching my son's soccer game and heard loud engines coming in from the north. Not what you usually hear around our small airfield. Soon a large aircraft came in low over the fields. I turned to a couple of the fathers on the sidelines and said calmly "Holy Crap that is a B-17". That is one impressive aircraft. I forgot that every few years they have a static display of WWII planes at the field.
