This might be a stupid question but…

Hi all,

I’m looking to bring a journal to Beast, just to write down notes, thoughts, etc., and I have a couple pictures of my girlfriend taped to the inside cover. Pictures aren’t on the contraband list, and the journal isn’t on the packing list, so I don’t want to be that person who gets smoked for having them. If anybody has any advice or knows an answer, that would be great!

You’re not a SEAL. Don’t write a book.

Congratulations on your appointment.

My advice is to stick to the packing list. My Old Grads say, "Stick to the packing list." However, maybe there is another 'journaler' out there who will chime in.

I thought I remember a journal being on the list? My son (2025 - he'll be your cadre) Journaled! And he read highlights to us when we were together at ADay. We loved having him read stories and about his experience. We only got one letter from him (he wrote other people). And I understand why because of the journal, which is something he will always treasure. It was a waterproof one. He had 2. One for notes and one for himself. I encourage it!

You can definitely bring a journal and pictures are totally fine. Write down all your thoughts if you want to and don't worry about people telling you not to write a book because you're not a SEAL. Write whatever you want!

You could write down your thoughts and then mail them home with instructions not to open them.

We sent a right in the rain small journal and a write in the rain pen. I do believe it was on the packing list.

You all, no sense writing on this thread...this kid has already reported to the cadet in the red sash. Perhaps he will take time to update us on his journey...after March Back!
