DS decided that USMA isn't for me and that Army isn't a career path I'd want to take anymore. Was wondering if there were any suggestions or opportunities he could take. Law is a passion of his.

To be clear on your question - your DS completed a 4 yr degree with ROTC, applied 5 times and was finally accepted to the USMA class of 2024 and has now completed the first year at USMA but now no longer sees the Army as a career path and is interested in law. Am I caught up?

If so, what were the conditions of his ROTC release? I feel like there are a lot of gaps to fill in to understand the situation and then potentially suggest options.

@From A Family of Enlisted If your DS hasn't done ROTC or USMA then I guess I don't understand the point of your question here. Has he already done some of the above? Is he interested in another service? Not quite sure what you're asking.

So there are 3 sons. DS1 is on his way to commissioning in the Army. DS3 has seen enough between an enlisted parent(s) and DS1 (ROTC+USMA) that they know the Army is not for him but does want to go to college and likes the area of law.

There are multiple attorneys here at SAF who can speak more to the process, but at a high level, the student would attend college for a 4 year degree. This degree could be in pre-law, or it could be in other subjects. Once complete, the student would then go onto graduate school aka law school for a follow-on two year program to secure his juris doctorate in law. After the second degree is achieved, the student would take the state bar exam for where they would like to practice law.

There are other career fields that touch on law if the end goal is not to be an attorney.

@From A Family of Enlisted are you seeking more detailed information on careers that circle around law and legal matters? Or, are you seeking more detailed information on the process of pursuing a law degree from a civilian school? Or something completely different?

Just wondering some of the details of this question? Can you provide more information? Is your son currently in High School or at USMA? Is he done with wanting to be an officer in the military or just doesn't want to be army? Check out Gov DeSantis history...quite an impressive route to becoming a politician.

Nope, have three sons. That was my eldest's path. Just inquiring about some options for my youngest.
Is your oldest son still at USMA? I believe I remember reading his story on this forum last year and wondered how all that worked out? Did he get his degree and ROTC released him to USMA?
