Transferring ROTC Units for the Fall of 2022

I have received a Nurse Corps NROTC scholarship for the Fall of 2022. However, I didn't get into the school I designated as my first choice. I got into my second choice school and plan on attending there, but I am relying on the NROTC scholarship to attend.

I have sent in my Placement Change Request Form, but no placement changes are to be processed until after New Student Indoctrination. How likely is it that my scholarship will transfer? The schools are of similar tuition (the school I am attending is slightly more expensive), both are out of state, and both are private schools.

Do you think it will be a problem to switch units?

Have you contacted the unit you are requesting to transfer into? They are probably in the best position to answer your question. If you have not contacted them yet, I would do it right away, via email and phone call. If they have not had their graduation and commissioning yet, they will likely be busy preparing for this. If they have already had commissioning, unit staff are often assigned elsewhere over the summer or taking some leave. As I understand it, the units are the ones scheduling NSI as well. If you did not gain admission to your first choice school, where the scholarship is assigned, I'd guess it is unlikely they would be scheduling you for NSI, since you will not be joining their unit, so NSI would likely need to be scheduled by the unit you are hoping to join. It seems there is some urgency to get this resolved. I might suggest reaching out to the unit where you are currently assigned to confirm about scheduling NSI and also to ask about the possibility of appealing the admission decision, if you are interested in trying that.

I'm not sure how frequently it occurs, but it does happen. At some schools, the ROTC units have significant pull with admissions; at other schools not so much. For some schools, the prospect of a full pay scholarship coming in is a significant incentive to admit a student.
