Triple Q's and LOA

1. There are several factors. Depends on how good their stats are. Depends how long they wait to submit CFA scores. Depends how quickly they complete DoDMERB evaluation and are processed.
^^^
Yes - I understand that. My questions were:
Do the majority of LOA recipients receive their LOAs before they are 3Q'd?
Anyone know what percentage of applicants fail to pass DoDMERB or the CFA?
2. you most certainly can "fail" the CFA. I believe they just don't necessarily brodcast a specific number for each event. In addition, at summer seminar we were told that if you "fail" a single event in the CFA then you automatically do not qualify physically. Now obviously you are able to retake the CFA and resubmit your scores or simply not submit scores for a bad test day.
If you can fail the CFA, and if failing one event can cause you to fail the entire CFA, and you can retake the CFA many times; what is the benefit to the USNA of not "broadcasting" a specific minimum number for each event? It is hard to believe that they might be concerned that a candidate might attempt to reach at least the minimums...if they knew what they were.

1. don't know a stat to tell you but in my personal experience my LOA stated..." the admissions board has found you qualified to compete for admissions... You are guaranteed an offer of appointment if your remaining admissions requirements are satisfactorily met."

my requirement is my nomination. As far as which comes first LOA or 3Q, like I said depends on your individual timeline and your stats. Sorry there isn't a better answer for you. I know I did my DoDMERB and CFA in the summer so I was 3Q'ed but didn't receive formal recognition of it before my LOA.

Don't know any pass/fail stats unfortunately.

2. IMO, you have to remember that the CFA is a part of your WCS. The better you do on the CFA the higher your score gets boosted. So I would say that they aren't necessarily concerned they just want you to strive for your best.

The CFA was developed as 'one stop shopping' for all the Academies since it was cumbersome to have a high school teacher administer up to five different tests for a single individual applying to all are several of the SAs. Since the different Academies look at the results differently, it is best for all to simply state "do your best". For example, if USNA published that they only evaluated four of the events, do you not think one that was simply applying to USNA would do better on those four events, at the expense of the fifth? It would not be fair to his competitin who was applying to two academies and, hence, had to perform on the fifth event.

And before someone slams me, I'm not sure CGA is entirely on board with the CFA concept.

My son never got any letter stating that he was 3Q'd. Got his LOA in September and cleared DODMERB in late October and had appointment in November. The funny thing was he did receive a letter stating that he was academically qualified after he got his LOA and nomination, about a week before getting the Appointment Certificate. Both his nominating sources had already called to congratulate him on his appointment when the letter arrived.

Will candidates receive a letter once they are 3 Q'd? If so, when might those letters start arriving for those who have completed their files?

It's the military, who knows? Last year, some candidates got this letter TWICE, some did not get it at all.

Two years ago, son was at CVW in early November. I stopped by Admissions Office. Talked to his Regional Director, I think. My question was "Is there anyithing else he can do to improve his chances?" They were incredibly nice. Told me he could submit a stronger CFA which would boost his score a bit. I asked if they would review his package again if he submitted a new CFA. They said "No, some updates, like CFA scores, SAT/ACT scores updates do not require another review of the package....we just adjust the candidates score to reflect the updates." Then they told me "Oh, by the way, he is 3 Q'd and you should be getting a letter to that effect. We are re-doing the letters."

The letter never came. But an appointment did, in late January!

So, the short answer is WHO KNOWS!

Neither of my two sons were ever specifically notified that they were 3Q'd. Each was invited to NASS. One went, one did not. Each got an LOA. After they received their LOA they were offered a CVW - but declined to attend.

It seems that the sequence of events can come in a variety of forms and that there is no "standard" or "typical" way things happen. It can be unique for each candidate.

You may not get invited to NASS nor CVW and still get an appointment. You may not get invited to NASS but may still get a CVW invite. The combinations of what happens, when it happens, and final results are many.

I would not get overly encouraged or discouraged no matter what happens. Just keep moving forward and concentrate on making your packet the best it can be.

Hello all,
My DoDMERB status states "NALOA." as of today, and I do not have it in hand yet.
But I'm still worried about the Nomination portion of the offer; how many candidates do the MOCs usually nominate?
Thank you and GO NAVY!

You're going to be fine. If you have not had your MOC interviews yet - about the only thing you can do to screw this up is to kick your interviewer in the groin.

Congratulation !! You will receive the LOA letter either this Friday or early next week. For my son, It took about 3 days to get it after the DODMERB displayed that magic words.

According to other posts, You are very much in. Not 100% , but I can say that almost 99.99% you are in.

Just curious for those with the magic NALOA on the DODMERB site..... is your medical completed and showing "qualified"? Or is this an interim step where DODMERB is notified you are a LOA recipient contingent on finishing the medical?

The reason I ask is it sounds like some get USNA LOA's without ever seeing that. And USMA LOA's do not appear to trigger that change at all.

I honestly dont know for others, but I did my medical exam in early july.
Actually, it says that I was medically qualified July 1st.
Then, today (Oct 4) it showed me the "magic NALOA."
But I'm sure any other LOA to a potentially Medically DQ'd person would stipulate that they must pass the DoDMERB review. I just did mine extremely early since I was a bit paranoid after everyone talking about it at NASS. =)

Congrats! and that was exactly what we were wondering.....

This time last year DS had LoA's to USNA, USAFA and USMA. The only one that ever showed up on DoBMERB was the NALOA. He was DoDMERB qualified early in the summer. But that was last year, who knows what will happen this year.
