Is anyone else having trouble accessing the website in order to log on to the CIS(usna.edu)? I've tried on wifi and off of it as well as with a computer and a phone. Both devices access other websites fine with and without wifi. Please let me know if anyone is having the same issue or has in the past.

Current mid, there was a fire in one of the server rooms, been hearing potentially no internet for a week and usna.edu is down as well, hope that clears it up.

Not just no Internet, but no access at all, including no access to MIDS, classwork, etc. Difficult, if not impossible, to do much of the homework and classwork.

Libraries and encyclopedias, paper homework and abbacus... ;)

Makes me wonder, though. No offsite backups? No Halon/oxygen evac in the server room?

It's a good lesson... adapt and overcome not only for Mids but profs. Makes face to face communication that much more important... which is a good thing.

Agreed. It's the profs who may have a hard time. They post a good bit themselves and so a lot of communicating through tech. Great opportunity for them all to connect, like in the 20th century.

My Firstie is thrilled about the outage..... he says they cant give any homework assignments..... so all they have to do is read..... and he got an "unauthorized tatoo while on his firstie cruise and now cant be on restriction because they have to have access to internet to process his restriction....LOL

Not finding this funny other than finding your son. Maybe he thinks it's cool to break the rules. It isn't.

cant use their yard card at the Mid store . cant buy books either unless you go get cash from ATM . lots of rumors flying around . I can't believe they wont be able to get it all straighten out within a week .

I'm sure there are reasons behind the network outage. However, from IT operation standpoint, this is very embarrassing case. If there is any total outage, organization like USNA, the infrastructure downtime should be measured in hours, not in days. I certainly don't have insight on what's going on there, but if the backup doesn't work, that certainly shows some major flaw in the IT operation. On top of the Mccain ship incident, without knowing details, just feeling the needs going back to basic, something fundamentally needs to be focused and excellency needs to be maintained.

Greeneggsandham......Not sure how much you understand about the academy , but Mids are allowed to get tatoos, they just need to get permission ( aka a chit) before they do. My mid was out of country and knew he would have consequences of restriction if he got the tatoo without a chit.

USAFA's Commandant of Cadets in the 70's told the Wing - 'it is your job to break the rules and my job to catch you' He was adamant that the USAF didn't need officers that 'managed' everyone by the rules. The USAF needed leaders that knew how to get things done.

And though I don't condone getting a tattoo (I just don't get the allure), it sounds like the Mid did and is/was willing to accept the consequences for what he did. I had a classmate that passed out drunk at a football march on - he retired as a 1 star. Another classmate spent the entire 47 months it seemed on restrictions - he retired as a Colonel. The SA's are high stress/high pressure environments and if somewhere along the line a Mid/Cadet offers the one finger salute to the rulebook and is willing to accept the consequences if caught - I think you will find most of his/her classmates are good with it. Plus, I can assure you - these are the things that will be laughed about and celebrated again this year at my 30th year reunion.

And if it wasn't 'cool' then why is the 'Black N' sweater celebrated. (and I may have that term (Black N) wrong)

I had a devout Mormon classmate that kept a bottle of tequila in his room. He didn't drink, but that was his silent protest to 'the man'

And to be clear I am not talking about rules that get you in trouble with the UCMJ/felonies.

It's a sign from God that you should go to USMA and reject USNA.
