Tuesday -- who else

For what it is worth, the Cadets who do Sponsored Civil Prep at Marion Military Institute have a very high acceptance rate when reapplying. I'm sure all of the MJCs have great odds, I happen to know a little more about MMI and am admittedly biased toward it.....
Now just to ask if you do a Prep year there can you apply for noms from AL-07 (where Marion is located), Tuberville and Shelby or do you have to apply for noms from your home state?

DS, 3Q'd with Nom to USMA, Slate has been filled but is still in the running for DA, but was told By RC that she put him up for Civil Prep. Nothing in the portal this week or today. Next week is the week!! Question is for those in the know about Civil Prep. Is there a time frame or a procedure on or when they will let you know about that? Any info would be appreciated!

My son was offered AOG Civil Prep about this time last year, about a week or 10 days after his portal indicated that he had not been accepted into the class of 2024. After your DS accepts the Civil Prep offer some of the schools will reach out to introduce themselves and he will have some time to make his choice. Once he lets the prep school know his choice they will get the ball rolling. It is important to note that the academy is reserving a spot for these cadets for the following year and "it is the cadet's to lose". Given the fact that all of the prep schools have a similarly high level of success in preparing the cadets, your DS should focus on the school that is the best fit for him (or you if you are planning to visit!). I'd also like to mention that this has been a very rewarding year for our son, he is more motivated than ever.

Thank you so much for the information. We have been looking into them. Where does your DS attend?

GMC. The choice was entirely up to my DS. There were several things that set GMC apart for him: 1) the school president (a retired general, WP grad) called him to discuss the opportunity, followed by a Lt Col a few days later 2) they have an intensive 6 week math evaluation and immersion as a part of their "Beast" week, DS added two more points to his ACT math score 3) Milledgeville is small but has numerous restaurants and a large recreational lake so the cadets have some things to do on the weekends.

I am, although I've already accepted my appointment to USAFA
So, if you get into USMA, and then have to turn down your USAFA appointment, they will ask you three times on the program if you really want to turn down the appointment. Now is the time to do a little soul searching and looking at the websites for information on your major and the pipeline to what you want to be when you grow up. (If you want to fly, consider sticking w/ USAFA...) This is the choice that our youngest had to make four years ago...

Edited to add: He went Army. (But it was not instantaneous...and we know that some other kid took that spot at USAFA and is living his or her dream.)

My daughter went to civil prep at Northwestern Preparatory School in California. As a self prep (non sponsored) she was encouraged to apply to all 5 academies. She applied to 4, not merchant marines. The year prior she only applied to USAFA, she choose USMA and has been very happy with the decision she made. Turns out at NWP they have OG's come from all the academies as well as admissions representatives. She was sold after hearing the experiences available at USMA. USMA also seemed to be the most impressed with reapplicants as a substantial part of their classes are made up of reapplicants, something like 20%?

I'm pretty sure unless you do something terrible you can go to any prep on the list and get in following year. Thats why it's called the golden ticket. And those that do self prep, (non sponsored) have a very high rate of acceptance as well.

You all, this is a zombie thread from last year....
