TWE

My cousin and I both got TWE today. Glad I had that rotc scholarship. I refuse to think of it as a "fall back" or "plan B" though. I was fully qualified, they chose not to admit me, so I'm taking my talents somewhere else. Good luck to all!
I'm sorry to you and your cousin re: the TWE but Congrats to you Pattonsghost on the ROTC Scholarship! I love your attitude and am grateful for you and your service! You will do great things! Best of luck to you!

Congratulations! With luck I will find myself in your shoes in a year.

This is how to translate a positive mental attitude into a path for future success. Good luck to you in ROTC. I suspect you will do well.

You have an excellent path ahead of you. My son, a WP grad, married a fellow officer who went the ROTC route. She has zero regrets for choosing the ROTC path. They have compared notes and feels that her path was a much better path for her. You may find the same thing. A SA and ROTC are both excellent options - they are just different.

I have a 4 year ROTC that I will probably use to attend Texas A&M and participate in the Corps of Cadets there. For 4 year scholarship winners, A&M pays room and board not covered by the ROTC scholarship. Pretty excited about that. Still waiting to hear from the other SAs though. Being from Michigan, Texas will be a pretty big change!

@Pattonsghost - my daughter in law did the ROTC program at Texas A&M. She had a terrific experience there and would recommend it to anyone. She married my son who is a WP grad. Both loved the time at their respective schools and I think that each would have been unhappy at the other's school. All that to say - there is a 'right' place for everyone.

I wish you well at Texas A&M.

My brother is currently a fish at tamu and loves it! He did not apply to the SAs, but I am sure he would tell you that he wouldn't want to be anywhere else. If you would like his contact info, pm me and I'd be happy to get y'all in touch. Michigan is a long way from Texas and I'm sure it would be nice to know a person or two going into it.

Like you, I don’t like it when people call ROTC a “fallback.” Within a year of earning those butter bars, no one will care how you got them. By then, it’s all about performance, performance, performance. There are brilliant officers and terrible officers from all commissioning sources.

(Aside: I’m one of those who believe that landing an ROTC scholarship can be harder than getting into an SA. ROTC is a national competition rather than a regional contest. And most of those applying to an SA are also applying for an ROTC scholarship. Again, hardly a fallback.)

Love this mindset!

So COLLEGE will be a pretty big change. Wherever you are going unless you are going to live at home & commute during the day or room w your high school crew at State, you are going to have a big change. This is fabulous & frightening & fun. Only great choices for you.
