TWEs will be sent this week

Any news today on portal updates? Any insider information?

" Yes, receiving a non-select letter does not mean you are disqualified from being offered a Falcon Foundation scholarship. In fact, most of the candidates who will ultimately be offered FF scholarships received a non-select letter yesterday. It hasn't been determined when the offers will be made, however (April 20th is a soft target)."

Interesting....so the applicants who are still listed as "CANDIDATE" will probably fare worse?

I second dadx4. Where does the leave the candidates who remain candidate without non-select letter? All options left on table? Appointment, prep school, falcon foundation scholarship or non-select letter? If my DS was told it Didn't look like he was going to be offered an appointment because some of his grades are not up to academy standards, but still no TWE. He started to think perhaps he might be a candidate for prep school?

Has anyone actually contacted admissions to ask? No TWE...still listed as canidate but USAFA says majority of appointments have been issued. How long is this going to go on????

#stillwaiting

The waiting is hard, yes. But I would caution calling admissions. If your portal still lists you as a candidate, sigh a sigh of relief and try to keep your mind occupied. The majority of appointments have been issued, but if you have not received the dreaded TWE, you are still in the game and there is nothing more for you to do but wait some more. You could have to wait a couple more weeks, but as long as you are waiting, you are not OUT. So hang in there and TRY to be patient. Admissions will let you know all the way down to the last candidate selected. I'm cheering for you all.

Since DD received the dreaded TWE, she was devastated, never has wanted anything so badly in her life.. Starting that same day she received acceptance into one of her back ups, then another and now as she's swimming Open Water Festival in FL she medaled took third place and also received another acceptance.
University of Main, Notre Dame in Ohio, Concordia in CA and Trinity in TX. As of right now leaning towards Trinity and AFROTC and reapply next year. She's 17 and started high school a year early. So maybe this works out fine.

Being recruited for swimming is a nice reminder when you start thinking you are not good enough, which isn't true anyway; just something you go through after something like this:
In TX being in top 20 percent of class gets you automatically accepted into A&M, UT, and so on. She's top 2% so she could do any of those. (Like most of the AFA applicants)..

I guess I'm posting here cause you all get it.... Mama still hurting for her DD

I'm in the same boat as your daughter, Texas is just super competitive so a&m is my backup for a year until I try reapplying to test my luck! Still plenty of awesome schools to chose from for her!

Best of luck to your daughter! I'm in the same boat this year. I can relate, I was so devastated after I was rejected. It is hard not to take it personally but a year to mature in college may be a blessing in disguise for us reapplicants. She looks awesome and I'm sure she'll do great no matter where she goes.

Same boat, note my son has not received anything yet, the USAFA must be tossing his "resume package" around the room, I would love to be a fly on the wall, then theres falcon flight & the prep school, all good, the last two months time has stood still, the conclusion is upon us. Soon

DS received a non-select letter in his portal Thursday, but no TWE. Would they have told him if he was being considered for a FF scholarship? Thought we would need to move forward with financing at plan B university now, but maybe we should hold on for a bit yet?

AFA does not send an actual TWE. It's only in the portal.

Last year my TWE came in the afternoon, and this year my appointment came in the morning. Don't give up.
Congratulations on your appointment for this year! Not sure if this is the thread to ask this on, but can you talk a bit about what you did over this past year, that you feel led to an appointment this year over last? Thanks!

PA mom, I am not sure I understand your post. If your DS received a non-select letter, it is the same as a TWE, just electronic form. If you have a deadline for plan B school, I would not miss it. If you can wait until after April 20th, then go ahead and wait.

Good luck to your DS.

Thank you, a bit old school here with the acronyms. Read through all the posts here again last night, and got a better idea how FF picks work. Aeronautics school at Plan B university didn't fall under approved AFROTC scholarship programs, so we need to be self pay, and only want to commit the minimal amount of money to hold a spot there if there is still a shot at a FF selection . Thanks again for sharing, learning things on this forum every day!

What was your plan B university? What type of AFROTC scholarship did you DS receive? Are you not allowed to choose the college and the scholarship follows your DS as long as there is an AFROTC detachment at the school?

The aeronautics degree...B.S. with a military emphasis is through Liberty U in Virginia.
Their Air Force ROTC detachment is in partnership nearby at UVA. We went to visit Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, and the ROTC rep explained that ROTC only offers scholarships for degrees which are needed by the Air Force. Aeronautics is not one of them, so while he can still join AFTOTC, he cannot obtain a 3 or 4 yr scholarship with chosen degree. DS has been accepted to LU, now waiting to hear back regarding separate Aeronautics school admission.
