Two questions.

1) My son is attending West Point SLE this summer and I heard that he will be taking the CFA there. Can he use the result for his USNA application. I assume yes - just confirming.

2) My son has not had as much time to train that he had hoped - too much class work. More time will be available to train in the summer and he may want to take the CFA again in July or August. Is it ok to take that test multiple times and just use the best score?

Thanks,

Both Academies use the same CFA elements. The only difference is that whomever is certifying it needs to upload the data electronically to each Academy. That's not an issue if a Physical Education teacher does it at school, so it's probably not an issue with the Summer Leaders Experience at USMA, as long as they are made aware that he wants the results to be reported to USNA as well.

He may take the CFA multiple times and have the data uploaded, if he thinks he will continue to improve.
It is important to practice the CFA in the order and time frame prescribed.
The test itself is a workout, so in addition to working on specific individual areas in which your DS needs to improve, it is of paramount importance that he complete one or two timed practice CFA tests beforehand (Just so he knows to expect his upper body to be tired as he embarks on that 1-mile run!)

Here is a LINK to the USMA web page that gives some pointers on a typical eight-week training program to get candidates in shape.

I believe the first SA to receive the CFA score can also "transfer" it to another SA -- at least that used to be possible if you contacted your Admissions Officer. You can retake but note that, for USNA at least, your old scores are erased and the new ones substituted -- for better or for worse. There is no "super-scoring" for the CFA.

My daughter attended the summer programs at West Point & Annapolis. She took & passed the CFA at each. Later the Air Force flew her out to Colorado to their academy for a visit where she again took the CFA with even better results than the last two. Even though she was considered “Qualified” in Army & Navy Portals Air Force said she had to retest. Main reason was she could not do a pull up yet she was running a 6:40 mile, 75 sit up, 60 push-ups & 52’ basketball throw. So you see. She did eventually satisfy them but it was for not, she leaves in two months for NAPS, (Naval Academy Prep School). Tell your son to get at it, there are no set rules.

If my recollection is correct, USAFA would not except CFAs done at other "summer seminars." This seems to jive with what moak said above. Can anyone else confirm? May not apply directly to rholt's case (USAFA was not mentioned), but others might benefit from this information.
