Does anyone have any experience PSU AFROTC. I’m also seeking a AFROTC scholarship. To my understanding only Type 1 scholarships are given to people with technical degrees. My major is business finance. Will this hinder me from getting a Type 2 scholarship and attempt to pursue a pilot slot upon graduation?

The HSSP is over for students beginning this fall (which it appears you are), so you're just looking at the ICSP program at this point.

Your major should not be a problem for an ICSP scholarship, but may hold you up in seeking that UPT slot. However, given your other threads, it appears you may have DODMERB issues-- that will be a bigger barrier than your choice of major.

I am going to disagree just a tad with Tbpxece regarding getting a UPT slot as a finance major. My DS was a non-tech major and he got a UPT slot. The thing that can be a stumbling stone is when it comes to SFT selection. Tech majors wanting rated have the highest selection rate. Tech/non-rated and non-tech rated, are basically equal in selection percentage. Non-tech/non-rate has the lowest selection rate.
No SFT selection = no commissioning.
Non-tech need to carry a higher cgpa than tech to be competitive.. Most will have a 3.3/3.4 cgpa compared to techs with a 3.0/3.1

Tbpxece is correct if you have some DoDMERB issues than you need to get in front of them now, because even to activate a scholarship you must be given a waiver. The exam taken once selected for rated is an FAA flight class 1 physical, which is much more stringent than DoDMERB
~ caveat I have not looked to see what your issues are, just to place that in your mind.

I would also say that many AFROTC cadets take flight lessons to increase their chances of not only being selected, but to have a small bit of a handle on flying prior to UPT.

My answer was intended to be more broad than specific. @Pima is correct in her specificity-- a non-tech degree is not a barrier, but more of a lack of a "checked box" on your package. Having the tech degree gives you a boost, which will be needed if you have a DODMERB waiver.

Thanks for the addition, @Pima !
