Under review to Hold

Hello,
I’ve read a couple things about being on hold. How long will it take to make a decision? Do they have a deadline for notification like the Naval Academy does? Is this a good thing? I am not sure how candidates on hold compete. I live in the state of Texas with a senator nomination. How do they select appointees?
Any info helps. I just know I will be waiting awhile for a decision

My DS was on hold for 2 months before getting the TWE.... It's a little harder for USMMA since it's based on the state and not the district when trying to juggle the appointments.

Hold is a good thing. Your chances of receiving an appointment are good. Timing depends on many factors. You will likely hear by the end of March, but it could be as late as June. Enjoy your senior year and your time with your family. Good luck.

I only just got a status change to hold today, and the only thing left in the portal is the DODMERB exams. I did complete them, but I still have no update on them though. I do hope they don't take too long to process.

I needed to hear that. Thank you. Do you know what does it mean? is it a waitlist?

USMMA Appointees must give a decision on whether or not they plan to accept the appointment by May 1, 2022.

KP does not have an official wait-list. Most candidates are on hold status at some point during their application process. It just means that your application has been reviewed and you are a well qualified candidate. The admissions staff is not yet ready to make a decision for any number of reasons. For example, in recent years, class composition goals seem to carry a lot of weight. Or they may be waiting on someone else from your state to finish their DoDMERB process. Don't make yourself crazy trying to read the minds of the admissions committee members. You have done all you can do at this point. Make sure your alternate plan(s) is/are nailed down. Then all you can do is wait.

During our DS cycle he was “on hold review” for several months. He finished his application by Mid October and had mins by December 27. With that and CFA and DODMERB pass he still waited until I believe late January. Remember USMMA has alotted numbers of appointees by state (easy google search) so they may need to wait for each state to complete their candidate files to make decisions. Their situation is unique from the other SA’s. They are not under DOD authority but are under DOT guidance as a I recall. Please correct me if I’m wrong @KPmom

If you add all those numbers, you get 232 appointees. Approximately 280 applicants start every year. Where do they get that difference from? Thank you

They select the best candidates from any state that help make up the class profile they are looking for. I would imagine that because of the SASH scandal that broke this year, they will be looking to increase the female demographic as much as possible.

The what scandal? 😐 What happened? 😐

Use the search tool. Allegations regarding sexual assault while a MIDN was on their sea tour.

Also, I would add that there are jerks, predators and creeps in all walks of life and in all settings sadly.

I wouldn’t advise my kiddo to not choose a school or job based on a current scandal. Unfortunately, if all of these horrid events were made public, most colleges, corporations would be under scrutiny.

Folks is there a difference with Hold and Wait List? Curious to know.
I'm pretty sure Hold is just a temporary status, in other words, they are waiting to make a final decision. Waitlist is how it sounds, you are on the appointment waitlist and getting a BFE or TWE is based on appointee yield.

Hold status is a good thing. It means you meet all the requirements for admission and they want you. Most (but not all) Hold candidates will receive an appointment. Admissions has to wait until all the nominations are submitted in order to decide final offers. I know the wait is awful, but try to be patient. Good luck.

Is the waitlist the same as hold for KP?
Waiting on DODMERBS and interview with congressman.
Should we stop where we are and look at other offers that already came through?
Sorry to sound uninformed but my kid's "contact" (AKA Regional Contact) has gone radio silent.

It is still early in the cycle. I would recommend keeping all options open. Once the congressman's office completes interviews, it is usually a pretty quick process to announce nominations. Depending on your congressman, you will either see a nomination show up in your portal or you may get a personal phone call. It's a good idea to answer calls from unknown numbers after your interview is complete. DODMERB is very slow, but it gets even slower in the spring. Patience is key which I know doesn't help. I went through this process with three of my kids, so I know how difficult the waiting is. You should have a backup plan when applying to any academy so I would pursue and solidify your plan B school. I would go ahead and put a deposit down on your backup school. Most colleges will refund your deposit if you opt for a service Academy. Enjoy your remaining time with your kiddo. The next six months will fly by.
