Can anyone fill me in on what is "provided" and what my son is expected to provide? His Kyloc got him his ACU and ASU Class B. His Class B came with broken belt. I'm looking for a place to buy him a belt. Their local store isn't close enough for him to get to. I asked where I could order and he assured me he could handle this lol. It got me to thinking about what else he needs. He said he was going to save and buy AGSU. Does he need that now? Does ROTC provide that? They had a formal event last year and all the MS-1 were in suits compared to upper classmen.

Trust your son to figure this out himself. He’s an MS2, no longer a newbie and perfectly capable of working within his chain of command to find a solution. Resist the temptation to step in and make things right. Let him have the satisfaction of diagnosing and resolving. This is a cadet problem — and a fairly common one — not a parent problem.

I agree. Good thinking but as a MS2 I was totally an adult who could figure things like this out.

he did text me and tell me he had a temp solution of borrowing one from an MS4 he is friends with...I do notice the difference a year has made in his growth. He was just made squad leader over some MS3s so he must be handling his stuff pretty well. I was thinking buying his AGSU as as gift for Christmas would be a good surprise too.... I didn't know if they provide that....Or if as an MS2 it is too early for him to have it.

Unlikely his unit will provide AGSU. We purchased one as a commissioning gift as there was no need for DS to have one prior to that point.

So no on the AGSU during college - what uniforms do cadets wear while at university?
DS is a scholarship MS3. I don’t know the terminology, but the uniforms he wears are the “camo” and the “dress blue.” Mainly the former for lab days and field exercises. The latter for formal events such as spring dining out. There are a couple of pieces of PT gear as well. (He also got cadre’s OK to wear the “dress blue” to DD’s USNA graduation so he could render her first salute.)

DS is MSII this year. His Battalion provides OCPS, PT and Dress Blues for Dinning out in the Spring. He has not had to purchase any official uniforms. He did choose to buy his own boots, and has added a few things to wear with his OCPs at weekly lab. I’m
