US soldier who crossed into North Korea 2 months ago is in American hands

my guess is the North Koreans realized the guy is a mess and there was no real information they could get from him or use him as propaganda.

Wow! He is a lucky young man. Don’t know much about him. Glad his family can breathe now. Agree on UCMJ. Also, I have no idea about this young man’s mental health, but if needed, I hope he gets the help he needs.
Just on the little we know, I am speculating “personality disorder - not otherwise specified.” And adsep following.

Say, "Why don't you play a game of solitaire." & see what happens...

Ever since this happened in July, I have been fascinated with this situation. I'm happy for his family to have him out of North Korea, but he will have some significant questions and repercussions to answer for from his decisions. The news stories today seem to be downplaying that he had just gotten out of a South Korean prison and was heading back to Fort Bliss for military disciplinary actions when he ran to North Korea. To me, this seems like a person who was running away from punishment rather than mental disorder, but we shall see.

Don’t disagree, and we may never know. I guess I just have a hard time wrapping my head around someone running away from any punishment and thinking North Korea is a better option, under any circumstances. But I suppose only he knows this answer.

I would agree, but I also have not spent time in a South Korean prison and then knew I had to deal with the Army likely giving me more punishment at home. People try to avoid punishment in the courts which puts themselves in even worse places all the time in the states. Places where you can hid are not always places you want to be.

We likely will never know the full story. I'm just going off of what information I was able to get in July when it happened up until now. I have no doubt that a mental disorder will be a explanation that will be brought up often now. I'm just saying that no mental problems were mentioned about him in any information I was able to get until now that he is back in US custody.

I did buy my son a Hanson Jersey last Christmas.

All my kids played on Herb Brooks Ice Arena at Lake Placid. Both daughters and son. Great venue. Son had the honor of having his name anounced over the loudspeaker for two minute penalty. I have a great picture of him in the box. Told him how many kids can say that?

Goody, now he can go from a North Korean prison to an American one - Leavenworth.
