What are the pros and cons?
What would be some reasons to choose one over another for an appointee/cadet, as well as thinking long term, post grad?

Most keep their current bank accounts. Then after BCT, basic cadets often switch to USAA or Credit Union. Its more to do with how many are using which bank -- whatever makes it easiest to transfer funds, pay bills, etc.

My daughter went with USAA (with my encouragement). She got her insurance through USAA as well (renter's, car, personal property insurance). Paying those through the USAA app when its all in one place is literally a button push.

It also makes it easy to do the USAA loan when a 2 deg but that's a minor things
Mine didn’t swap until she became a 2 degree. You just need one direct deposit into the USAA account before applying for the loan so it was easier until then to stay with the old bank.

We have had USAA for decades. All our kids who are now adults have it. Use it for banking and all forms of insurance. We had a water leak once in our home which wrecked our hard wood floors. The claim ended up costing $120K. They never once gave us any kind of grief over any of it. Who else can say that about their insurance companies?

Ugh! Literally going through that right now. So far, USAA has been phenomenal.

The President of the Air Academy Credit Union is an ‘87 grad. That alone makes it a superior financial institution.

USAA isn't what it used to be, but it's ease of use is still good.
I am very quickly learning that. I helped my appointee get the ball rolling with USAA. Long story short, it's been over a week, and they cannot figure out how to verify ID, gave us the run around on the phone for over an hour ending in being hung up on. We've gotten at least 3 emails saying the membership account is verified and to logon, but we still can't logon. Phone calls for support ends up in a merry go round. No one seems to know wth is going on, let alone help. I literally had a rep tell me, "hang up and call back. Maybe another rep can help you."

I had to file a complaint with the Alaska Insurance Commission over USAA’s handling of an insurance claim and after many years I found their premiums to be higher than the competition. At the end of the day, they’re not the same insurance company from 20 years ago but I still bank with them. Navy Federal is an excellent option to consider.

Is Navy Federal they just as versatile, easy to use globally (thinking of post grad, deployments, etc) as USAA?
