I am a reapplicant applying for the Class of 2025. I did not get in last year but was quickly accepted into Northwestern Prep which is a civil Academy prep school. I have already completed my ALO interview and the interviewer believed that I have the perfect mold for a cadet and he wrote me the highest possible recommendation. Do I stand a chance of receiving a LOA? If I have a 31 ACT and a 1350 SAT is there anything that would be concerning comparing myself to other applicants?

1. No one can tell you your chances and comparing yourself to other applicants is rarely helpful. There are also a lot of factors we don't know about you like your GPA, essays, nomination status, CFA, other letters of recommendation, teacher evaluation, and district competitiveness. Even if we knew all of these things, we STILL couldn't tell you because no one on these forums makes the decision for your application.

2. Your goal should be an appointment, not receiving an LOA. USAFA is very picky about which candidates receive LOA's anyway and they typically save them for recruited athletes.

I know it's tough (my first post on these forums was also a "what are my chances" thread) but the only thing you can do is put your best application forward and hope for the best.

Good luck!

Agreed! LOA’s are not the goal, an appointment is. I believe a few (and I mean a small few) appointments are given in October and begin to rise each month with the majority being offered in March. From what my Counselor has told me, if you want an appointment prior to March, you should have everything completed by early October, minus Nominations. USAFA will not give an offer until you have a nomination, so that usually holds things up along with medical.

Good for you for staying with your dream. The above posts are good advice. I would simply add the following as the father of a 2024 for what it is worth. My DS had a 35 ACT, 4.0 GPA, etc etc and did not receive an LOA (he was not a recruited athlete). I have no idea how the LOA process works to be honest. Like you, we were hoping he might get an LOA to shorten the time period from completed package to acceptance just to reduce the anxiety, but we were not so lucky.

It is an anxious time, and many times I thought, "If they only REALLY knew my son, he'd get in." Of course, I wasn't considering the thousands of other parents who felt the exact same way about their child. Complete your package, take care of school work and enjoy your final year of High School as much as you can.
