Exciting time! I just checked my portal after looking at some of the forums on here and found out that I received an appointment to the USAFA c/o 2026! I’m super stoked and still waiting to hear from USNA, but USAFA was always high on the list for me. However, I am still going to consider my option with West Point as well. USAFA is also giving me until April 15th to decide (i’m guessing because my kit was due 11/30), which is only about two weeks less than the May 1st deadline, but it seems like significantly less time. In any case, I’m sure to be certain about whichever decision I make.

From what I’ve seen on here, visits to USAFA are booked and hard to attain, and it’s the only school I won’t have visited. I’m scheduled to go to West Point next weekend and went on a CVW to Navy a couple months back, so any advice in weighing options would be greatly appreciated.

Cant stop jumping for joy!!!

Awesome! And the April 15th deadline is for all of us. The reason is because they'll be dropping our appointee information. Such as what items we need to buy and what medical.

There will be a day just for those appointed to visit USAFA. You'll have to pay for ticket and lodging but they'll reserve the day(s) for us. USAFA really is a campus you have to see. Lastly you can always accept both and politely tell the other that you decided to go to another service. They plan for people who applied to different services academies or decide not to show up to I-day.

Thank you for the information! Would this visit be ahead of the April 15th deadline?

Question, when you say you checked the portal, what do you mean by that? Nothing has ever been updated on my portal except green check mark or red X, every notification I got was through email with no change on my portal.

I'm not sure. Mostly likely it would be, because it makes sense for a appointee go before making a decision. I'll look more into it for you, it might be on the website or on their calendar.

So I just logged into the USAFA portal and it said my decision was ready, to echo what FlyFalcon said. I didn’t get an email, because they usually send one saying you have an update in the portal, but I just decided to check it (as I do on a weekly basis), and it was good news!

I had the same thing happen. No email no notice. I only knew to check my email because of my awesome teammates who were given a heads up by their senators and congressmen!

All info goes through your portal. You will see "Qualified" by your medical and also your CFA. If it all still shows green check marks, they just haven't update your app yet. It's a hurry up and wait game.
Best of luck to you!

I don’t see either, but have received an email about being medically qualified. I have not received an email about CFA qualified, but I submitted (after failing the first one) and got no email back so I assume it’s fine? Both have green check marks. CFA was submitted mid-December the second time so that was a while ago

Congratulations!
My son received his appointment to USAFA in March 2021. It was the only SA he had not visited before Covid hit. He visited and spent time/overnights at the other 4. He was not thrilled with the chance of not visiting USAFA before accepting. We booked what is referred to as "the windshield tour" the first week of April. He wasn't able to talk to cadets or go in any of the buildings because of Covid. As soon as he arrived, he knew that was where he wanted to go. He accepted his appointment before returning home. He's been happy/no regrets ever since!
